Language is a means of communication. It serves as a bridge connecting people, thus
ensuring and enhancing the process of socialisation. Such a powerful weapon called Language can be taught through the medium Literature. Literature teaches the language of human beings, the language of mind, and the language of the soul. This can be explained with few examples. Shakespeare is one of the greatest minds in Literature. His plays serve as a storehouse of diction, vocabulary, humour to name a few. When one reads his plays he/she comes in contact with the different patterns of using the English Language. The Language of nature makes the human existence memorable. Learning language through literature helps one to comprehend the hardships faced by humanity. For instance, Streams like Black Feminism, Eco Feminism and Dalit Feminism helps one to understand how women are marginalized at various levels of the society. Man in this modern world invests huge amount of time in pursuit of wealth and societal status. Inspite of achieving all these, he suffers from the clutches of isolation and alienation. To overcome this, understanding real language through literature becomes inevitable and essential. In light of the above, this paper attempts to examine how viewing language through ample examples from literature will enable man to find his real identity in the modern world where there is a rush for economic and social gains.
