BACKGROUND

"Take On Me" is a song by the Norwegian

synthpop band A-ha written by the members
of the band and produced by Alan Tarney
and was released in 1985.
The video was directed by Steve
baron and was a mix of both
animation and live action with a
narrative moving the song along.
The white clothing shows that the
lady is innocent and pure,
it also has elements of performance as we
see the band singing along and playing
their instruments. At the time the video
was seen as a highly creative for that
time. The mans costume is highly
reminiscent of the 1950s and 60s bad
boy look.
the range of shots is very wide and you
can clearly see it is has high production
values. The range of shots consist of
tracking and panning shots and a mix of
close ups and mid shots. Low angled
shots show the female has power but
also innocent at the same time.
The animation for the video toke nine
months to complete where as the video
only toke 2 days to shoot, the lighting of
the video is mostly seen in the caf parts
of the video, it is very low key lighting
showing a boring and low lit caf.
As a music video it fits in well with the
style of the music and the range of shots
and the animation makes the video work
well. The shots of a mix of animation and
live action work well as it makes the
video seem even more dream-like.
