Suggestions for improvement:

Lack of relationship:
Students and faculty should work with an organization where a relationship is already in place; students
need to do more work outside of the organization, outside of SL work time to ensure that a positive
relationship is formed.
Projects started never finish/organizations unwilling to train/students dont stay long enough/ all
individuals thus wasting time:
Students contracts signed, setting up time frame; benefits given to the students (letter of recfree
food/drinks/t-shirts/coffee mug); group unification, weekly meetings/events to set up cohesion and
address concerns and issues-work to work out solutions to time constraints or other issues.
Disconnected students/not enough challenge:
Set up goal requirements to be met instead of hr requirements; make goals and requirements less vague
to create a more challenging environment. SL projects that force students to create relationships with
groups/specific people-thus creating specific relationships between students and organization leaders.
Community needs not addressed/organization mission at odd with the academy:
Sign a contract between student and SL organization addressing student commitment; dont give the
student credit if they are not doing the work they need to do at the SL project. Work as a unified team
to protest the issue at hand to bring about solutions.
Noncommittal:
Students need to be linked to projects that they are interested in so that they want to stay committed
beyond their requirements; offer incentives to students (and perhaps community organizations) to get
people hyped up in the project. Create a punishment for students who do not spend adequate time for
all of the needs of the project.
Training/Trust not fully utilizedStudents leave too damn quick:
Students should be compelled to keep in contact after the completion of the SL project; class
requirement needs to last as long as the organizations need; only have students do behind the-the-
scenes-work (advertising, fundraising, flyers); students can do further projects for the organization after
the initial stages of the SL project.
