Introduction
Sharp Global is a large producer of mint ingredients, including natural menthol crystals and mint
blends. The company has headquarters in Delhi, with offices in Mumbai (India). It also has a
marketing subsidiary in USA (Sharp Mint Inc) and established distribution system in Europe and
Asia Pacific. The final product is manufactured by processing Crude Menthol Oil (CMO), which
is further obtained Mentha Arvensis leaves.
Its biggest manufacturing plant is in Bhiwadi, two more plants in Delhi, another one in Barabanki
and a small plant in Jammu. Manufacturing process is different in both Bhiwadi and Delhi plants,
the former having reactive distillation columns and later one has simple distillation and
crystallization processes.
Menthol
Levo menthol is a colorless, hexagonal with either acicular or prismatic crystals, usually a needle like
in fused masses or crystalline powder. Levomenthol is (1R, 2S, 5R)-5 methyl-2 propan-2-yl-cyclohexan-
1-ol with molecular formulae C

H
14
O and molecular weight of 156.3. Menthol exists in 8 optically
active and 4 externally compensated forms
