School District
Three Springs, PA
If we want students to innovate, collaborate,
and solve real-world problems, we need to
make it possible for teachers to do those
same things.

-Justin Minkel
2007 Arkansas Teacher of the Year, a board member of the National Network of State Teachers of the Year, and a
member of the Center for Teaching Qualitys Collaboratory.
The Think Tank

An Innovative Team was created to
collaborate and attempt to solve school
related problems by thinking outside the
box. The group Includes elementary,
middle and high school teachers as well as
the districts administration.
Mentors such as Dr. Duff Rearick of the RLI Group and
Dr. Pat Crawford of the PLDC led group discussions. Guests from TIU 8
and Manito also provided valuable input.
The Innovation Team met monthly
for meetings and participated in a
blog directed by Dr. Duff Rearick.
Another district, Fannett Metal, also
had faculty that participated in the
group.
Focus Groups were established to create
communication and unity with
teachers, parents and administration.

ROADMAP
THE
Purpose: This is an individualized map to guide our
students in their future success as a Rocket graduate.

Parent Involvement: Parents/guardians major
influences in the young adults our students
become. SHC and parents/guardians both want
students to become happy and successful
individuals in their life choices. As part of the
journey, we ask that parents/guardians be part of
developing their childs roadmap to success.

As a freshman at SHC, we want our students to start off on this
journey by developing goals and taking the initial steps to meet
those goals.

Students will be required to:
1. Research three occupations of interest and
consider the following:
- Demand and Location
- Potential Salary Range
- Type of post graduate schooling/training needed
2. Write a paragraph(s) to describe interests. Students may
address each occupation individually or as a general collection
of interests.
3. Make an appointment with the guidance counselor to
confirm students are taking the appropriate academic
classes.

4. Job Shadow a career of interest.
Self Evaluation: Freshman Year
List the current classes you are taking and your grades for each marking period. Do this at the end of each marking period.

As a sophomore, students will identify the
steps to meet these goals.
Students will be required to:

1. Look over choices and information that they added to their roadmap
from their freshman year.
- List any changes, choices or new information that they would like to
add or change.
2. Students schedule their PSAT test.
3. List schools, universities or trainings that you would be interested in
followed by the length of time you will need to attend and the degree
you would need to acquire.
EX: 4 years, 2 years. Bachelors Degree, Associates Degree, Type of
Certification
4. Students will complete Job Shadow #2 and Self Evaluation Form

Things to consider:
1. Does your major or area of training require a minimum
GPA for SAT score for entry?

2. What courses will your area of interest focus on?
Ex: Will you be expected to take a lot of science or math
courses?

Check into financial aid, scholarships and grants
available. Add this information to your roadmap.
During their year as a junior at SHC, students will
put these steps into motion and evaluate their
progress.
Students will be required to:
1. Make an appointment with the guidance counselor.
- Discuss classes and revisit goals.
- Schedule college tours, career orientation, job fairs (Parent invite)
Brief report post visit is recommended.
2. Job Shadow #3
3. Self-Evaluation Form

As Seniors, students will continue to evaluate
and pursue their efforts to meeting their goals.
Students will be required to:

- Fill out a college, trade school or job application.

- Schedule financial aid session with the guidance
counselor (parent invite).

- Evaluate themselves as a potential employee. Students
will write themselves a letter of reference.

PROJECT
