PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS
American Petroleum Institute (API) specifications standard for base lube oils.
Group I base oils contain less than 90 percent saturates and/or greater than 0.03 percent (>300 ppm)
sulfur and have viscosity index greater than or equal to 80 and less than 120.
Group II base oils contain greater than or equal to 90 percent saturates and less than or equal to 0.03
percent (<300 ppm) sulfur and have viscosity index greater than or equal to 80 and less than 120.
Hydrotreating is the only means to achieve the low sulfur and high degree of saturated hydrocarbon
content.
