1. Gain attention
Start with the following question:
What is a balanced plate of food?
Insert pictures of plates of food, healthy and unhealthy.
2. Inform learners of objectives
At the end of the lesson the student should be able to:
• Name the different food groups
• Define each food group
• Sort different foods into the different groups
• Understand the necessity of the different food groups
• What a balanced diet is
• What a balanced plate of food is
3. Stimulate recall of prior learning
To test the prior knowledge of the learners, give them a multiple‐choice test on the different groups.
Provide immediate feedback on the test.
Create the test.
4. Present the content
Present the new knowledge by using the following:
Give a picture of the food groups pyramid.
Provide a link to the following website.
Let learners explore their own learning.

5. Provide “learning guidance”
Provide a True/False test to practise the new knowledge.
6. Elicit performance (practice)
Ask the learner questions in the form of a cloze test in order to help them answer the main
question.
7. Provide feedback
Feedback is provided with each activity.
Feedback on printed activity will be given as soon as possible.
8. Assess performance
Give the learners an essay to write to assess their knowledge and understanding of the lesson.
Give the learner an activity in which he/she can create an ideal eating plan.
