Introductory paragraph:
1. Do they quote the critical lens and summarize in their own words:
2. Do they name both of their sources and list the authors?
3. Do they name the literary device they are going to use (characterization)?
4. Do they make a stand on the critical lens that it is proven true or untrue?
5. Is their paragraph at least six sentences long?
6. If there are grammatical errors, are they minimal and do not obscure
meaning?
7. Do they define Murrays Needs list?


Body paragraphs:
1. Are there exactly two paragraphs, each that clearly list the text?
2. Do they name at least one character and two Murrays needs; OR
two characters with one Murrays Needs each?
3. Do they use adjectives to describe the characters personality?
4. Do they use the phrase the author describes to indicate they
understand characterization and its not just their opinion?
5. Do they follow the MEAEAL format?
6. If there are grammatical errors, are they minimal and do not obscure
meaning?

Conclusion Paragraph:
1. Do they express what they, as the reader, have learned about the
critical lens through these novels?
2. Do they summarize the texts/characters journey at the end?
3. Have they written at least six sentences?
4. Do they restate their thesis, but NOT repeat it?
5. If there are grammatical errors, are they minimal and do not obscure
meaning?
