OPENING: Brain gym, music, maps, yoga PRETEST: What is a first impression?
ANTICIPATORY SET/BUILDING BACKGROUND: In the Real World 1. Why is a first impression so important? In the first 20 seconds, I can tell you if I would hire that person or not. Business Weekly, CEO 2. A handshake is a judgment of characterwhy/why not? 3. Women and men are judged by their handshake? 4. Eye contact is an important part of a greetingwhy/why not? 5. Saying the persons name is importantwith a greeting thank you for taking the time. Why/why not? 6. What makes greetings so important throughout college/careers?
ACTIVITY: Anticipatory Set: Discuss Building Background questions. Fill in graphs.
Whole Class: Introduce the importance of greetings and first impressions. Watch handshake video.
Group Work: Make a circleone inside, one outside. Practice shaking hands, making eye contact with different persons around the circle.
Independent Work: Rate the handshakes with the rubric for this exercise.
Closure: Discuss which students rated a 5 on the greeting.
REINFORCEMENT: Begin classes with greetings and handshakes.
POST TEST: What is a first impression? Why is it important?
