The topic I selected from the list for our research project is What values do reality television

shows appeal to? How have they changed television-viewing habits? After giving the topic
some thought this topic must be narrowed down to make a specific point. The question that is
posed in the topic of what values do reality television shows appeal to is the area that I will
stick with in my research paper. The way that I understand this question is that why is reality
television popular. Why are a large percent of television viewers drawn to watching reality
television rather than watching sitcoms or television dramas? My tentative thesis statement for
this paper is Reality television has changed how we watch television as we prefer to watch "real
characters" on television than fictional characters. Reality television takes up a large percentage
of television viewing currently, and reality television is viewed by millions of television viewers
every day. It is my goal to explain to the reader of how reality television is the most popular
form of television viewing. I will explain why this type of television is popular as well and
which different forms of reality television is the most popular. While there are billions of
viewers of reality television, some will not watch reality television, as they do not agree with
what the shows entail. These areas will be described and explained in the paper as well. As a
viewer of reality television, I expect to learn more about what I watch while writing this paper as
well as gain insight as to why I enjoy reality television as well.
