The Surname Vallet and it's many variations is in fact a Ottoman title, Vilayet.

According
to sources which can be found online, the Vilayets were a first-order administrative
division referring to either a province, state, or region (e.g. such as to govern a province,
valley, or region in France). Vilayet is rooted in the Arabic, Wali "governor" governs a
waliyah (velyat) "that which is governed". Under the Ottomon Empire the title Vali
(Wali) is a Governor, in which this office entitled the holder the personal title of Pasha.
Vali Ahad (or Veliaht), was heir apparent and/or presumptively translated as Crown
Prince. This is my grandfathers surname, Albert Vallet.

One article reads, "In Arabic, wilayah is used to refer to the states of the United States,
and the United States of America as a whole is called " " (al-
Wilyt al-Muttaidah al-Amrkyah) literally meaning "the American United States".

The Vilayets, "...introduced with the promulgation of the "Vilayet Law" (Turkish: Tekil-
i Vilayet Nizamnamesi) of 21 January 1867."

Jon Perry For famliy who may not know, the Vallets also lived in a period of
France with extensive history with the Ottoman Empire and the Berbers as it
reads on the records of the family name. Those Berbers were Black-a-Moors.
