As a stepping stone to AP it will require extensive reading and numerous writing activities throughout the year. The scope of the course covers the six essential elements of geography, divided regionally. Primary Textbook: Glencoe World Geography Texas Edition Richard Boehm, Ph.D. CLASSROOM POLICIES AND EXPECTATIONS Grading: Students will be assessed according to the schools grading policy- 50% major assignments, 50% minor assignments Late Grades: Daily- can be taken up to 2 days late. One day late: highest possible score of an 80, two days late: highest possible score of a 50. Third day it is a 0. Major- THERE will be NO LATE MAJOR GRADE assignments accepted. Homework: Students should expect homework, consisting of reading and note-taking or other assigned documents. Major assignments: Major assignments will include the summer assignment, major essays, notebook, projects, and exams. Classwork: Classwork will include completion of maps and charts, discussion and debate, practice POV statements and essay writing techniques, simulations, and note taking, from lecture, documents, textbook, and occasional videos. Students are expected to actively participate in all classroom activities. Quizzes: Students will have reading quizzes on assigned homework readings, MAP quizzes, and academic vocab quizzes. Exams: Exams will come from the FBISD social studies department. Behavior: STUDENTS WILL BE EXPECTED TO ADHERE TO THE STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT. It is especially necessary for Pre-AP students TO COME TO CLASS WITH ALL NEEDED SUPPLIES AND COMPLETED ASSIGNMENTS. Due to the pace of the class, it is critically important that students not get behind on either their reading or their coursework. There will be ABSOLUTLY NO BEHAVIOR ISSUES TOLERATED. -The first time there is a behavior issue; there will be a teacher-student conference. -The second time the parent will be contacted and the student will be formally written up. -IF there is a third time we will look into having the student transferred out of Pre-AP to Advanced Geography. Any student, who wishes to come to tutorials, needs to fill out the tutorial log sheet BEFORE their scheduled tutoring appointment.** If you plan to retake a test, you MUST attend tutoring before retaking the test.
