Salat al Aisha

The Salutation of Aisha [salatu-l ''ishah] is the Prophetic benediction
that distinguishes the Arusi-Qadiri spiritual path [tariqah]. It is one of the
three elements of the Arusi-Qadiri litany [wirdu-t tarq].

In the Shafii fiqh compendium, fathu-d dayyn fi fiqhi khairi-l adyn, our
Grand-Shaikh, Imam al-Arus (may Allah perfume his resting abode),
introduces the salutation as follows:

I give below the salutation [salat] that my spiritual master [shaikh] (i.e.
Taika Sahib Abdu-l Qadir al-Kirkari), may Allah have mercy on him,
advised me to recite. This is the same salutation that Lady Aisha (Allah be
pleased with her) recited ten-thousand (10,000) times every day. When
the Prophet (Allah bless him and gave him peace) came to know of it, he
said to her, You reciting this salutation once will bring you the merit of
reciting a hundred-thousand (100,000) salutations.

Our Shaikhuna has mentioned in his panacea for the body and soul, Al-
Munjiyat, that reciting this salutation 1,000 times on Friday nights (i.e.
Thursday evenings) is a means to beholding the vision of the beloved
Prophets blessed countenance in ones dreams, Allah bless him and give
him peace.

A slightly different version of this salutation without the words wa
sallim wa brik and wa !lihi wa sahbihi is also popularly known
as durd-e-sadat. It is found in the third hizb of the famed, Dalail Al-
Khairat of Imam Abu Abdu-Llah Muhammad b. Sulaiman al-Jazuli, Allah
be pleased with him.

The luminous Koran exegete [mufassir] Imam Abu-l Fadl Jalalu-d Din al-
Suyuti, Allah be pleased with him, is reported to have said that a single
recitation of this salutation (i.e. durd-e-sadat) yields 600,000 rewards,
and anyone who recites it 1,000 times will be fortunate in both worlds.

Success is from Allah.

Salat Al-Nariyyah

The Salutation of (Emancipation from the) Fire [salatu-n nariyyah] is
recited with much faith and fervour in times of trials and tribulations in
the Muslim world. Amongst its many names include, Salatu-t Tafr"jiyya,
Sal!t-s Saif, and Mift!h Kanzu-l Muh"t.

To achieve a legitimate worldly gain, it is proven to be of benefit to gather
a group of 7 or 11 pious individuals who are steadfast in their daily
obligations to recite this salutation 4,444 times in a single sitting. The
gathering [majlis] should conclude with an ardent supplication to Allah
most High to fulfill the need for which the recitation was initiated for.

Arwi Muslims inherited this practice from the Maghribi Muslims who
regularly employed this method effectively to achieve their worldly needs
and avert worldly losses. It is also reported in various books that this
prayer was used as a battle-cry by the Mujahid"n for the solicitation of
Allahs help in overcoming the enemies.

Shaikh Muhammad Sadiq Alawi writes the following in his tri-lingual work,
The Key to Arriving at the Door of the Messenger (Allah bless him and
give him peace, about this noble salutation:

Imam Muhammad al-Qurtubi relates that anyone who recites this 41 or
100 times everyday, Allah will remove their worries, concerns and
grievances; will ease their affairs, enlighten their hearts and elevate their
status; will improve their state, increase their sustenance, and open the
doors to good and bounty. He will fulfill their intention and will secure
them from unfortunate events, afflictions of hunger and poverty. He will
cast the love of them in peoples hearts and he will not ask anything from
Allah, Exalted is He, except that they will be granted it. But one will not
achieve these benefits except by perseverance, for this salutation is a
treasure from the Treasures of Allah.

Imam Muhammad al-Sanusi used to add, fi kulli lamhatin wa nafasin bi-
adadi kulli malumin laka (at every moment that lasts the duration of the
flickering of an eye or the drawing of breath, and do so to the number of
everything that is known to You). He is reported to have said that
whoever is persistent in reciting this 11 times everyday, then it is as if his
sustenance descends from the sky and grows from the ground.

Success is from Allah.

Salat Al-Tibbiyyah

The Salutation of Medicinal Virtue [salatu-t tibbiyyah] is a succinct
benediction that our Shaikhuna terms as the salutation to strengthen
ones body and soul.

The constant recitation of this salutation is a tried and tested means to
attaining cure for ones physical and spiritual maladies.

Shaikh Amjad Rasheed of Jordan clearly explains the wordings of this
salutation in this answer:

Is the Prophet, peace be upon him, a healer of sicknesses?

The words wa rawhi-l arwhi wa ghadhih is found in the version of
this salutation distributed by the late gnostic of Damascus, Shaikh Ahmad
al-Habbal al-Rifai, who was widely considered as one of the forty Abdal
of the age.

Salawat ibn Mashish

http://www.*****************/dua/salatulMashish.pdf

arabic text: http://www.islamischer-fiqh.de/salat.pdf

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tI7ClD-0Xz

The Salutation of Al-Mashish [salatu-l mashishiyyah] is a sublime Sufic
benediction upon the beloved Prophet, Allah bless him and give him
peace, composed by the venerable pole [al-qutb], Mawlay Abdu-s Salam
ibn Mashish al-Hasani al-Idrisi, may Allah be pleased with him.

He was a disciple of the venerable succour [al-ghawth], Sidi Abu Madyan
Shuayb ibn al-Husayn al-Ansari, may Allah sanctify his secret. His
inheritor was the luminous spiritual guide [al-imam] and famed Sufi
master [al-shaikh], Abu-l Hasan Ali al-Shadhili, may Allah illuminate his
resting abode.

The contemporary Shadhili master Shaikh Nooruddeen Durkee describes
Salatu-l Mashishiyya as, a metaphysical paraphrase of a widely known
prayer, in which the believer calls on God to bless the Prophet as if to
thank him for having received Islam through him.

This benediction is the only surviving work of ibn Mashish. Yet, it is
interesting to note that many notables have written deep commentaries
upon it. The Turkish scholar, Ismail Selim Ecirli, who translated one such
commentary by the Ottoman Sufi and poet, Ismail Haqqi Bursawi, writes
in his introduction:

Ibn Mashishs prayer (salat) is his only written legacy. This prayer has
won enormous fame in the Muslim world and became the subject of
numerous commentaries throughout the centuries. This sublime prayer
(salat) constitutes the backbone of Shadhili rituals and is recited to this
day in the Darqawiyya, Fasiyya, Alawiyya and Yashrutiyya branches of
the Shadhiliyya order. However this interest in the prayer of Ibn Mashish
was not solely confined to the Shadhiliyya order. The Qadiri, Khalwati and
Jalwati orders also widely recited this prayer, and used it as a wird.

- Ecirli, I S 2004. Ismail Haqqi Bursawis Commentary on Al-Salat Al-
Mashishiyya: A Translation with an Introduction and Notes. MA thesis,
International Islamic University (Malaysia).

Shaikh Muhammad Sadiq Alawi notes in his tri-lingual work, The Key to
Arriving at the Door of the Messenger, about this benediction:

Imam Yusuf al-Nabahani mentions that in the recitation of this salutation
are secrets and lights the reality of which are only known to Allah. By
reciting this regularly one receives Divine Help and Lordly Openings. The
recitor will receive truthfulness and sincerity, expansion of breast, ease of
affairs, protection from Allah from every difficulty, problem and illness
both inward and outward.

Damascus: Dar al-Hawi, 2006.

Our Shaikhuna, Taika Shuaib al-Kirkari al-Siddiqi, writes in in the
upcoming hajj guide, Sacred Pilgrimage and Visitation, about this
benediction:

The recitation of this sublime benediction brings much spiritual benefit.
Our master, Sahibu-l Khalwa Abdu-l Qadir b. Imamu-l Arus Sayyid
Muhammad (may Allah be pleased with them both) frequently recited it
and accrued much blessings.

Salat li-Yawm Al-Jumua

There is no recommended [sunnah] or voluntary [nafila] act of worship
['amal] which brings greater merit to a believer on Fridays than the recital
of salutations [salawat] on the beloved Prophet, Allah bless him and give
him peace. This is attested to by many sound Prophetic narrations
[ahadith].

Amongst the huge corpus of salawat available, the following is a special
one for the Day of Gathering [yawmu-l jumua]. It is also known as
durud-e-tayyib. This salutation is narrated by hujjatu-l Islam (the Proof of
Islam) Imam Abu Hamid Muhammad al-Ghazzali in two of his works viz.:

The Arabic ihy ulmu-d dn (Revival of the Islamic Sciences)
The Persian kimiy-e-saadat (Alchemy of Happiness)
Imam al-Ghazzali states the following about this noble salutation:

It is said, Whoever repeats this on Friday seven (7) times will receive the
intercession [shafaa] of the Messenger, Allah bless him and give him
peace. It is assured.

Our Grand-Shaikh, Imam al-Arus Sayyid Muhammad, has also mentioned
about the merits of this salutation in his magnum opus, maghn mulhi-t
tibyni f sharhi man fathi-d dayyni.

Our Shaikhuna, Taika Shuaib, highly emphasises the recital of this
salutation together with Al-Itiraf and Wirdu-l Jumua after the Friday
congregational prayers [salatu-l Jumua].

It is worth noting that Imam al-Jazuli has included this salutation in the
third chapter [hizbu-th thalith] of his sublime salawat compendium,
dalailu-l khayrat wa shawariqu-l anwar fi dhikri-s salati ala-n nabiyyi-l
mukhtar.

Success is from Allah.

Salat Al-Yaqutiyyah

The Salutation of the Resplendent Sapphire [salatu-l yaqutiyyah] is a
hidden jewel from the priceless vestiges of salawat ala-n Nabi. It was
composed by the famed Shadhili master, Muhammad b. Muhammad b.
Masud al-Maghribi al-Fasi, may Allah sanctify his secret.

One narration of how he composed this benediction is as follows:

One day he was sitting in the mosque of the Prophet [masjidu-n Nabawi]
recitng the Shadhili litany. Upon completion, he invoked benedictions
upon the Prophet [salawat 'ala-n Nabi], when he heard the Messenger of
Allah (upon him be blessings and peace) say: Do more salawat, O Fasi!
He asked: What should I say, O Messenger of Allah?

Then he (Allah bless him and give him peace) said: Say, Indeed Allah
and His angels shower blessings upon the Prophet. O you who believe,
shower blessings on him and greet him abundantly. [33:56] O Allah send
blessings and peace upon the one You made as a cause for the opening of
Your Overpowering Secrets and the splitting asunder of Your Lights of
Absolute Mercy, (to the end)

The contemporary Shadhili master, Shaikh Nuh Keller al-Darqawi, writes
the following in his Invocations of the Shadhili Order:

Another of the litanies is Al-Yaqutiyya [The Invocation of the Priceless
Gem], by the great teacher and sheikh Muhammad ibn Muhammad ibn
Masud al-Fasi (Allah be well pleased with him), who after authoring it saw
the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) pointing with his noble
index finger at the sheikhs chest and saying, This is the impregnable
secret.

He then showed it to the inner circle of the saints, and it won their
approval, and the Pole [qutb] said, Whoever regularly recites it three
times, morning and evening, shall frequently see the Prophet, both awake
and asleep, in the sensory and the spiritual. It is also related from the
teacher that one of the brethren entered a retreat [khalwa] in which he
unceasingly recited it for seven days, and he did not depart before he had
met the Prophet while awake and taken knowledge and secrets from him.

Shaikh Muhammad Sadiq Alawi records Al-Yaqutiyyah as the 25th mean
to obtain the vision of the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be
upon him, in his tri-lingual work, The Key to Arriving at the Door of the
Messenger. He quotes the following emphatic statement from Al-Imam
Al-Qadi Yusuf al-Nabhani:

Whoever recites this [i.e. salatu-l yaqutiyyah] regularly in the morning
three (3) times and in the evening three (3) times, then they will have the
vision of the Messenger of Allah abundantly, while awake and in their
dreams.

The Damascene scion of the Prophetic household, As-Sayyid Ash-Shaikh
Abu-l Huda Muhammad al-Yaqubi al-Hasani, frequently prescribes Al-
Yaqutiyyah for those who long to see the Messenger of Allah, upon him be
blessings and peace.

Success is from Allah!

The Salutation of the Resplendent Sapphire

By our liege-lord, the venerable master & illustrious guide,
Muhammad ibn Muhammad ibn Mas#d al-Maghrib" al-F!s"

In the name of Allah, the Universally Merciful, the Singularly
Compassionate

Indeed Allah and His angels shower blessings upon the Prophet. O you
who believe, shower blessings on him and greet him abundantly. [33:56]

O Allah send blessings and peace upon the one You made as a cause for
the opening of Your Overpowering Secrets and the splitting asunder of
Your Lights of Absolute Mercy, thus becoming delegate of the Lordly
Presence and deputy of the Secrets of Divine Essence.
For he is the sapphire of Oneness of Your Ultimate Kernel and the core of
the manifestation of Your Eternal Attributes.

So, by You and from You, he became a veil from You and a secret from
the secrets of Your unseen world, by which Your creation is veiled from
You. For he is the talismanic treasure and the overflowing ocean of
abundance.

So we ask You, O Allah, by his eminence with You and His preciousness to
You, to make our bodies flourish with his works, our hearing with his
words, our hearts with his lights, our spirits with his secrets, our teachers
with his states, our innermost consciousness with his ways, our inner core
with his unveilings, our vision with the effacing lights of his beauty, and
the last of our deeds with that which pleases him, until we behold You
through him, for he is with You. So I become a delegate of the two
presences by the two presences, and that I guide by them to them.

And we beseech You, O Allah, to bless and invoke peace upon him with a
blessing and peace that befit his honour and his august estate, through
which you unite us with him and draw us closer to him by the purity of
their love with him, and by which present me the fragrance of the pious,
and by which bestow on me the gift of the chosen one.

For he is the impregnable secret, the hidden and unique jewel. He is the
priceless sapphire enclosed in the shell of Your hidden Secrets and the
ineffable darkness from which things known to You are chosen. He is the
unseen from Your Unseen, and an alternate from the secret of Your
Lordship, until he has become a sign from which we infer You. And how
should it be otherwise when You informed us unambiguously in Your Book
with Your Statement, Those who swear fealty to you but swear fealty to
Allah, through which all doubt has left us and we have been apprised.

And make, O Allah, our path to You and our dealings with You through the
light of following him. And be well pleased, O Allah, with those You have
made exemplars and whose hearts have been made lamps of guidance
freed from bondage to the alterities and from the dross of all admixture,
and from whose hearts there appeared pearls of meaning which were
made necklaces of realization for those of foundation. And [be well-
pleased] with whom You chose from the reaches of previous destiny to be
Companions of Your chosen Prophet and through whom You were pleased
to give Your Religion victory; they being the finest of the elect.

Bestow, O Allah, a manifold increase of Your good pleasure upon them,
with the prophetic family and clan, and all who follow their traces. And
forgive, O Allah, our sins and those of our parents, our guides, brethren in
Allah, and all believing and submitted men and woman the obedient
amongst them and those who bear sins.

And Allah is the Guide!

The Salutation (for the Deliverance) of the Soul [salatu-r ruh] is
customarily recited at the graveyard, especially at the final resting abodes
of ones parents, ancestors, relatives and teachers.

It is also known as durud-e-dawami. A shorter version without the first
three lines is known as durud-e-shifa. Extracts of this benediction also
appear in the Salawat compendium of Imam al-Jazuli, Dalailu-l Khayrat.

Many spiritual guides have stated that this salutation is equivalent to
1,000 salawat. Our Shaikhuna Dr. Taika Shuaib al-Kirkari al-Siddiqi has
mentioned the following benefits in relation to this salutation in his prayer
book, Al-Munjiyat:

Reciting it once is equal to reciting the whole of the Dalailu-l Khayrat
Reciting it 3 times at a graveyard will provide its occupants relief from the
trials of the grave for 80 years
Reciting it 4 times protects the dead from all tribulations of the grave till
the Day of Judgement.
Reciting it 24 times for ones parents would deem one to have discharged
ones duties to them. Such parents would be visited by a thousand angels
Reciting it daily brings about purification of the heart, immense beneficial
effects on the body and soul, and an exalted position here and in the
hereafter
Success is from Allah.

Salaat u'l Kawthar

Allahumma Salli 'alaa Muhammad-in fi'l Awwaleen
Wa Salli 'alaa Muhammad-in fi'l Aakhireen
Wa Salli 'alaa Muhammad-in fi'n-Nabiyyeen
Wa Salli 'alaa Muhammad-in fi'l-Mursaleen
Wa Salli 'alaa Muhammad-in fi'l mala'il a'laa ilaa yaumiddeen

O Allah! Bestow blessings on Sayyidina Muhammad among the ancients,
and bestow blessings on Sayyidina Muhammad among those of later
times,
and bestow blessings on Sayyidina Muhammad among the Prophets,
and bestow blessings on Sayyidina Muhammad among the Messengers,
and bestow blessings on Sayyidina Muhammad among all the highest
angels
till the Day of Judgement.

Salaat by Imam Shaf'i Rahmatullahi 'alaih

Imam Ghazali (450-505 A.H, 1058-1111 C.E) Rahmatullahi 'alaih reports
in Ihya 'Ulum id-Deen (Revival of Religious Knowledge, Vol I, Book 2,
Chapter 2) that Shaykh Abi'l Hasan al-Shafi'i saw the Holy Prophet
Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam in a dream and asked him how Imam Shafi'i
had been rewarded on his behalf to which he replied that Imam Shafi'i
would enter paradise without questioning for the sake of the salaat he
wrote in his book, ar-Risalah (The Message). SubhanAllah (Glory be to
Allah!).

The salaat is:

Wa Sallallahu 'alaa Muhammad-in
Kullamaa zakara hu'z-zaakiroon
Wa ghafala 'an zikri hi'l ghaafiloon

And blessings of Allah be on Sayyidina Muhammad
whenever he is remembered by those who remember
and whenever he is not remembered by the negligent.

28. Sayyid Ahmad Dahlan, the Shafii Mufti of Makka, wrote in his
collection of salawat the following: and among the forms of salawat that
is tried and tested for meeting the Prophet (alayhi salat wa salam) is the
following:

Allahumma Salli wa Sallim ala Sayyidina Muhammadin al Jaamii
li Asraarika wad-Daalli alayk, wa ala Aalihi wa Sahbihi wa
Sallimevery day 1000 times each.

29. Sayyid Ahmad Dahlan also mentioned in that same book the
following: Among the greatest and most beneficial forms that the gnostics
mentioned was beneficial for recitation even if only one time on the
night preceding Friday, and that whoever was constant in that, then the
form of the Prophet (saw) would appear before his spirit when he dies and
when he enters the grave, until he sees that the Prophet (saw) himself is
the one who is placing him in the grave; and the gnostics said that
whoever takes up this salawat should read it every day 10 times, and on
the night before Friday 100 times, so that he can attain this great favor
and immense blessing in shaallah. And that specific form is:

Allahumma Salli ala Sayyidina Muhammadin an Nabiyy al Ummiyy
al Habeeb, al Aali-l Qadr al Adheem al-Jaah, wa ala Aalihi wa
Sahbihi wa Sallim.

This was also related by Shaykh Ahmad as-Sawi and Imam Suyuti.
..
As mentioned by Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani (q) and many other
awliyaullah, from the Sharh Salawat ad-Dardir al-`allamah as-Saawi,
reciting this salawat will eliminate claustrophobia and bring ease to you in
the grave. It will also remove the fear of the interrogating angels, Munkar
and Nakir. It is mentioned that whoever recites this salawat once every
Friday, upon his death Prophet (s) will go with him to his burial and bury
him with his own blessed hands!

Numerous awliyaullah have said, "Whoever recites it even once on Friday
or from Thursday evening onward, Allah (swt) will allow his soul to see
the Exemplar of All Souls (s)," not only when his soul is leaving the body,
but also when he is taken to the grave, until he sees the Prophet (s) is the
one taking care of him in that grave.

Awliyaullah say to be consistent in reading as-Salaat al-`Aali al-Qadr ten
times daily and once on the night of Jumu`ah will bring you khayr al-
jaseem, the uncountable good that comes from it. Also, the book Fath ar-
Rasool states that who reads it ten times after `Isha will be rewarded as if
they recited it all night.

Allahumma salli `alaa Sayyidina Muhammad an-Nabiyyi 'l-Umiyy
al-Habeebi 'l-`aliyya 'l-qadri 'l-`azheemi 'l-jaahi wa `alaa aalihi
wa sahbihi wa sallim.

O Allah exalt and greet and bless our master Muhammad the Unlettered
Prophet, the Beloved of Highest Value, Possessing Immense Status and on
his family and companions and send them peace.

As-Salaaat u'l Munjiya / Tunjina

Allahumma Salli 'alaa Sayyidina Muhammad-in
Salaatan Tunajjeenaa min jamee'il ahwaali wa'l aafaat
Wa taqdhee lanaa bihaa jamee'al haajaat
Wa tu-tahhirunaa bihaa min jamee'is-sayyiaat
Wa tarfa'unaa bihaa 'indaka a'lad-darajaat
Wa tuballighunaa bihaa aqsal ghaayaat
Min jamee'il khayraat fi'l hayaat wa ba'dal mamaat

O Allah! Shower blessings on Sayyidina Muhammad -
such blessings by means of which
You may deliver us from all anxieties and calamities,
You may satisfy all our needs,
You may cleanse us of all evils, and
You may grant us high rank and status in Your Presence, and
You may lead us to the limits of our aspirations and capacities,
in whatever is good in life as well as after death.

1. One of the most tried and tested means of gaining the vision of the
Noble Prophet (alayhi salat wa salam) during sleep, and even during
wakefulness, is intense love for him, and occupying ones thoughts with
him night and day, along with faithful conforming with his noble sunnah,
and frequent prayers of benediction (salawat) upon him in a continuous
fashion, and complete uprightness on his way (istiqama) and great
yearning towards seeing him (saw), and supplications for him, and
carrying the cares of the Beloved (alayhi salat wa salam), namely, calling
to Allah in secret and in public; and continual application of all of the
foregoing, and the absence of despair and hopelessness in the mercy of
Allah, the Generous Bestower, for He deals in a steady manner but does
not neglect anything, nor does He ruin the hopes of anyone who
supplicates Him and hopes in Him, and it might be that He has hidden the
treasures within the late response to ones supplication.

2. Some of the gnostics (arifeen) have said: whoever wishes to see the
Prophet (saw), then let him remember him frequently night and day, and
love the Awliya, otherwise, the door to that vision is closed shut, for they
are the leaders and masters of people, and our Lord and His Messenger
(saw) get angry at (the object of) their anger

3. Regular recitation and meditationon the Burda Sharifa of Imam
Sharafuddin al-Busayri.

4. It has been mentioned from the Prophet (saw) that whoever sends
prayers of benediction (salawat) upon the spirit (ruh) of Sayyidina
Muhammad among the spirits, and his body among the bodies, and his
grave among the graves, then he will see me in his sleep, and whoever
sees me in his sleep, will see me in the Day of Rising; and whoever sees
me (with this special vision) in the Day of Rising, i will intercede on his
behalf, and for whomever I intercede, he will drink from my pool and Allah
will forbid the Fire to touch his body.

5. Imam Nawawi wrote in his Adhkar: whoever, on the night preceding
Friday, prays two nafl rakas, reciting Ayat al Kursi 5 times in each raka
after Fatiha, and then after this salah, sits and prays salawat 1,000 times
upon the Prophet (saw), then he will see him in his dream.

6. From al-Hasan (al-Basri?): Whoever prays four rakat (2$2) nafl in the
night preceding Friday, and in each raka after Fatiha recites the following
suras: Duha, Sharh, Qadr, Zalzala (any multiple number of times), and
then when he is done with these four, sits for the jalso and reads tahiyyat,
and sends salawat 70 times and makes istighfar 70 times, and then
makes the salaam to end the prayer, taking care not to speak to anyone
after that, then lies down on his right side and sends salawat until sleep
overtakes him, then he will see the Prophet (saw) in his dreams in
shaallah.

7. Whoever recites surat al-Qadr (inna anzalnahu..) one thousand times
on Friday, then he will not die until he sees the Prophet (saw).

8. Whoever wakes in the middle of the night before the day of Friday and
recites surat al Quraysh 1000 times, then he will see the Prophet (saw) in
his sleep and all his needs will be satisfied in shaallah.

9. Jafar as-Sadiq said: Whoever recites surat al Kawthar 1000 times,
and then sends salawat 1000 times, in the night preceding Friday, and
then ask Allah to allow him to see the Prophet (saw), then he will see the
Prophet (saw) in his sleep in shaallah.

10. Whoever, in the night preceding the day of Thursday or Friday or
Monday, prays four rakat nafl (2$2), in the first raka reciting surat al
Qadr 3 times, in the second reciting surat al Zalzala 3 times, in the third
reciting surat al Kafirun 3 times, and in the fourth reciting al Falaq and an
Naas 3 times (and another narration of this says to add Ikhlas 3 times
here), and when he is done with this, sits and recites the salat al fatih of
Sidi Mustafa al-Bakri, then he will meet with the Prophet (saw).
Salat al-Fatih:
Allahumma Salli wa Sallim ala Sayyidina Muhammad, al Fatihi
lima Ughliqa wal Khatimi lima Sabaqa, Nasir il-Haqqi bil Haqqi,
wal Haadi ila Siratik al-Mustaqeem, wa ala aalihi Haqqa Qadrihi
wa Miqdarihi-l Adheem. 11. Sidi Mustafa al-Bakri said: Among the
benefits of this noble name Muhammad is that whoever says it every
night 22 times, then he will frequently see the Prophet (saw).

12. Some of the Saliheen have stated: whoever wishes to see the
Prophet (saw) during ones sleep, let him pray two rakas, and after Fatiha
read surat al Ikhlas 100 times, and when he is done, say three times:
Ya Muhsin Ya Mujammil Ya Munim Ya Mutafaddil, Arini Wajha
Muhammadin salla-allahu alayhi wa sallam then he will see him in
shaallah.

13. Pray two rakas, and recite any sura you wish in them, and in the
sujud say 100 times:
Ya Nur an-Noor, Ya Mudabbir al Umoor, Balligh Anni Ruha
Muhammadin salla-allahu alayhi wa sallama tahiyyatan wa
salama (O Light of light, O Manager of all Affairs, send greetings and
peace to the spirit of Muhammad (saw) on my behalf).

14. One of the righteous awliya said: I saw the Prophet (saws) in a
dream and he told me, say before you sleep
Bismillah ir Rahman ir Raheem 5 times and
Audhu billahi min ash shaytan ir rajeem 5 times, and then say
Allahumma bi Haqqi Muhammad, Arini Wajha Muhammadin
Haalan wa Maaala
(O Allah, by the right of Muhammad, show me the face of Muhammad in
this moment and in the end), then I will come to you and will not break
my promise to you.

15. One of the Shuyukh said, whoever recites the following salawat after
the Isha prayer, and reads the last three suras each 3 times, and does
not speak with anyone after this, then he will see the Prophet (saws), and
it is (the version of Imam Ghazali): (to be posted later)

16. Qadi Yusuf ibn Ismail an-Nabhani on page 444 of his book Saadat
ad-Darayn wrote: whoever wishes to see him in ones sleep, then let
him say an odd number of times:
Allahumma Salli ala Muhammadin kama Amartana an Nusalliya
alayh, Allahumma Salli ala Muhammadin kama huwa ahluh,
Allahumma Salli ala Muhammadin kama tuhibbu wa tarda lah,
Allahumma Salli ala Ruh Muhammadin fil Arwah, Allahumma Salli
ala Jasadi Muhammadin fil Ajsad, Allahumma Salli ala Qabri
Muhammadin fil Quboor. (O Allah, send salawat upon Muhammad as
you have ordered us to send upon him, O Allah, send salawat upon
Muhammad as he deserves, O Allah, send salawat upon Muhammad as
much as you love for him and are pleased with him to receive, O Allah,
send salawat upon the spirit of Muhammad among the spirits, and upon
his body among the bodies, and upon his grave among the graves).

17. Imam Qastalaani said, I saw written in some books that whoever
recites surat al Muzzammil and al Kawthar regularly will get to see him
(saws).

18. Imam al-Yafii said: whoever desires to see him (saw), then let him
make ghusl and wudu in the beginning of the night before the first Friday
of the month, and wear clean white clothes, and pray the Isha prayer,
then pray 12 rakas (6$2), in each raka reciting surat al Muzzammil after
the Fatiha. and when he is done with this, let him send salawat upon the
Prophet (saw) 1,000 times, and recite istighfar 1,000 times, and let him
sleep in a state of puritythen he will see the Prophet (saw) in his sleep in
shaallah.

19. Frequent Recitation of the following Salawat (from Shaykh Abdul
Qadir Jaylani):
Allahumma Salli Salaatan Kamilatan wa Sallim salaaman
taamman ala sayyidina wa mawlana Muhammadin illadhi tanhallu
bihi-l uqadu wa tanfariju bihi-l kurabu wa tuqdaa bihil hawaiju
wa tunaalu bihi-r raghaaibu wa husna-l khawateem, wa yustasqa-
l ghamaamu bi wajhihi-l kareem, wa ala aalihi wa sahbihi fi kulli
lamhatin wa nafasin bi adadi kulli malumin laka (O Allah, send the
perfect salawat and the complete salaam upon our master and patron
Muhammad, by whom the knots are untied, and the afflictions are
removed, and the needs are satisfied, and the desired goals are gained as
are the best ends, and by whose noble countenance the clouds are
watered; and also upon his family and companions, in every moment and
breath, according to the number of things in Your Knowledge).

20. Imam Qastalaani said: whoever recites surat al Fil on any certain
night 1000 times, and then sends salawat 1000 times, then he will see
the Prophet (saw) in his sleep in shaallah. Also, whoever writes surat al
Fil and hangs it on ones person, then it serves as a great shield from
ones enemies, and Allah grants victory by it to him over them.

21. Whoever prays Maghrib salat, and then prays nafal rakat (2$2) until
it is time for Isha, and in each raka reads surat Ikhlas 7 times, and when
he ends the prayer (with salam),
he goes down in sujud and says 7 times
subhan allah wal hamdu lillah wa la ilaha illa allah wallahu
akbar and then says 7 times
Allahumma salli ala-n nabiyy al ummiyy Muhammad wa aalihi wa
sallim and then says 7 times
Ya Hayyu Ya Qayyum Ya Rahman Ya Raheem, and then gets up
from that sujud and begins another two rakats in the same fashion, until
the time for Isha comes, and then he prays Isha, and after Isha prayer he
sits and says the following 1000 times:
Salla Allahu ala Muhammadin an-Nabiyy al-Ummiyy, and then
goes to sleep on his right side and continues making salawatthen he will
see the Prophet (saw) in his dreams in shaallah.

21. Whoever prays Maghrib salat, and then prays nafal rakat (2$2) until
it is time for Isha, and in each raka reads surat Ikhlas 7 times, and when
he ends the prayer (with salam), he goes down in sujud and says 7 times
subhan allah wal hamdu lillah wa la ilaha illa allah wallahu akbar and
then says 7 times Allahumma salli ala-n nabiyy al ummiyy Muhammad
wa aalihi wa sallim and then says 7 times Ya Hayyu Ya Qayyum Ya
Rahman Ya Raheem, and then gets up from that sujud and begins
another two rakats in the same fashion, until the time for Isha comes,
and then he prays Isha, and after Isha prayer he sits and says the
following 1000 times: Salla Allahu ala Muhammadin an-Nabiyy al-
Ummiyy, and then goes to sleep on his right side and continues making
salawatthen he will see the Prophet (saw) in his dreams in shaallah.

22. Pray two nafl rakas, and in each raka recite surat Ikhlas 100 or 200
times, and when you are finished with this prayer, say the following three
times: Ya Allahu Ya Rahman Ya Muhsin Ya Mujammil Ya Munim Ya
Mutafaddil, Arini Wajha Nabiyyika Muhammad Salla-allahu alayhi wa
sallam, and also write these words on white paper and put it under his
pillow, then he will see the Prophet (saw)

23. Pray Maghrib prayer in the masjid, and then pray sets of two rakat
(until the adhan for Isha prayer), and in each nafl raka recite surat Ikhlas
3 times after Fatiha, and after praying Isha in the masjid, return home
and do not speak with anyone. And when you are ready for bed, pray two
rakas and in each raka recite Ikhlas 7 times and finish the prayer with
salams. Then go down in sujud, and make istighfar 7 times (while in
sujud) and send salawat 7 times, and then say 7 times:
Subhan allah wal hamdu lillaah wa la ilaha illa allah wallahu
akbar wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billahi-l aliyy al adheem.
Then sit up from that prostration, and sit in the position of jalsa and raise
your hands and say (7 times):
Ya Hayyu Ya Qayyum Ya Dhal Jalali wal Ikram Ya Arham ar-
Rahimeen Ya Rahman ad-dunya wal akhirata wa Rahmahma Ya
Allahu Ya Ilaah al Awwalin wal Akhirn, Ya Rabb Ya Rabb Ya Rabb
Ya Allah Ya Allah Ya Allah. Then stand up and raise your hands and
say the same thing once, and recite istighfar and salawat as much as you
wish, then enter your bed and sleep on your right sideand you will see
the Prophet (saw) in shaallah.

24. Some of the righteous awliya said, whoever wishes to witness the
Prophetic Beauty then let him make wudu before going to bed, and then
sit on his bed, making sure it is clean, and then recite suras Shams and
Layl and Tin, saying the Basmala before each of them, and then make
frequent salawat, and end with this dua:
Allahumma Rabb al Balad il Haraam wal Halli wal Haraam wa-r
Rukni wal Maqaam, Iqra ala Ruhi Muhammadin minna-s
Salaam.

25. It was related that one man used to see the Prophet (saw), and that
he used to recite the following salawat 16,000 times:
Allahumma Salli ala Sayyidina Muhammadin wa Aalihi Haqqa
Qadrihi wa Miqdarih

26. One of the Shuyukh of Sidi Ahmad Zarruq said: After making the
final salam for salat al Juma, say
Subhan Allah wa Bi Hamdihi 100 times, and then after Asr prayer,
say 1000 times
Allahumma Salli ala Sayyidina Muhammadin an-Nabiyy al-
Ummiyy, and he tried this in the Prophets mosque in Madina, and found
it worked.

27. Haqqi Afandi an-Nazili wrote in his book The Treasu1rehouse of
Secrets the following: in the year 1262 I asked my Shaykh about some
special Adhkar that would unviel to me Divine knowledges and bring me
closer to Allah and connect me to the Messenger of Allah (alayhi salat wa
salam), and he told me to recite Ayat al Kursi and the following salawat:
Allahumma Salli ala Sayyidina Muhammadin wa ala Aali Sayyidina
Muhammadin fi kulli lamhatin wa nafasin bi adadi kulli malumin
laka,

and he said, if you are assiduous in this, you will take the knowledges
and secrets from the Prophet (saw) until you come to be under his direct
spiritual training (tarbiya).

And he said, and this is tried and tested, and so-and-so found it to be
true and he listed a number of names of people. So on the first night i
tried it, i recited this salawat 100 times, and i saw the Prophet (saw) in
my sleep, and he told me, (my) intercession is for you and your parents
and your brothers, and then i found in my own experience what the
Shaykh told me to be true. And then I told many of the Ikhwan about this
practice, and i found that whoever stayed constant with it, received many
extraordinary secrets unlike others, and in it is many secrets indeed, and
this indication should suffice for you.

30. Shaykh Ahmad as-Sawi said in his commentary on the Wird of Sidi
ad-Dardir: the recitation of the salawat al Ibrahimiyya (the same as the
one in the tashahhud) 1000 times brings one to the vision of the Prophet
(saw), and Shaykh al Adawi said in his commentary on Dalail al Khayrat
that whoever reads this salawat 1000 times on the night preceding Friday
or Monday, then he will necessarily behold the being of the Prophet
(saw).

31. The Qutb al-Shaykh Abdul Qadir al-Jaylani wrote in his Book al-
Ghunya that Abu Hurayra reported that the Prophet (saw) said:
whoever, on the night preceding Friday, prays two rakat, and in each
raka recites (after the Fatiha) Ayat al Kursi once and surat al Ikhlas 15
times, and then after that salat, sits and says 1000 times,
Allahumma Salli ala Sayyidina Muhammadin an Nabiyy al
Ummiyy
then he will see me in his sleep, and the next Friday will not come without
him seeing me. And whoever sees me, then the Garden is his, and all his
sins past and future are forgiven.

32. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) related that the
Prophet (alayhi salat wa salam) said: there is no believer that prays two
nafl rakas on the night before Juma, and in each raka recites surat
Ikhlas 25 times (after the Fatiha), and then after finishing the prayer says
1000 times,
Salla Allahu ala Muhammad in-Nabiyy il-Ummiyy, then the next
Friday will not come without him seeing me in his sleep, and whoever
sees me then Allah forgives his sins.

33. Shaykh Hasan al-Adawi in his commentary on the Dalail al Khayrat
recorded that Shaykh al-Mursi said: Whoever recites this salawat 500
times every day and night and is constant in that then he will not die
until he meets with the Prophet (saw) in a state of wakefulness
(yaqadha). That salawat is:
Allahumma Salli ala Sayyidina Muhammadin Abdika wa Nabiyyika
wa Rasulika an-Nabiyy al-Ummiyy wa ala aalihi wa sahbihi wa
Sallim.

34. Shaykh al-Adawi also recorded that Imam al-Yafii stated in his book
Bustan al Fuqara that the Prophet Muhammad (alayhi salat wa salam)
stated that, Whoever prays this salawat upon me on Friday 1000 times,
Allahumma Salli ala Sayyidina Muhammadin in-Nabiyy il-Ummiyy
wa ala aalihi wa sahbihi wa Sallim
then he will see either his Lord or his Prophet or his dwelling place in
heaven during his sleep, and if he does not, then let him repeat that for
two Fridays or three or five.

Shaykh Abdullah al-Khayyat ibn Muhammad al-Fasi wrote in his book that
he tried this practice but did not see anything, so then he said he sent
salawat purely out of love for the Prophet (saw), and he saw a dream of
glad tidings that he saw himself in the Garden. One of the Shuyukh said,
whoever recites the following salawat after the Isha prayer, and reads
the last three suras each 3 times, and does not speak with anyone after
this, then he will see the Prophet (saws), and it is (the version of Imam
Ghazali): (to be posted later)

Nabi Muhammad, Nabi Adam, Nabi Nuh, Nabi Ibrahim, Nabi Musa and
Nabi 'Isa and all the other Prophets and Messengers who came in-
between. Allah's blessings and His salutations be upon them all.

This salaat is referred to as Salaatu Uli'l 'Azm because it contains the
names of the five Prophets Alayhimussalam who are considered Uli'l 'Azm
(the greatest).

Imam Yusuf ibn 'Ismail an-Nab'haani explains in Afdhal u's Salawaat that
according to Imam al-Jazuli, if someone recites this salaat three times, it
is equivlaent in merit to reciting the whole of Dalaail u'l Khayraat. For this
reason perhaps, we are recommended in Dalaail u'l Khayraat to recite this
salaat three times.

countless, endless, never finishing;
such blessings as everlasting as You,
and on his family and companions,
and in the same manner complete salutations as well.

The most popular salaat from Lataaif i'l 'Arshiyyah is:

Allahumma Salli wa Sallim billisaani'l jaami'ah
Fi'l hadhrati'l waasi'ah
'Alaa 'Abdika'l jaami'i li'lkamaalaati'l insaaniyyah
Al waasi'i fi'l mashaahidi'r roohiyyah

Mardhiyyatin ladayk maqboolatan 'indak
Wa laa tanfakku jawaarihee feehe
'An 'amalin saalihin khaalisin liwajhika maqboolin ladayk
Yaa Arhama'r Raahimeen

O Allah! Bestow blessings and peace
that are invoked by all tongues in a vast gathering
on Your servant (the noble Prophet),
who combined in himself all admirable human qualities:
such extensive blessings as are witnessed in the realm of souls;
in every situation, in every thought, in every moment;
as many times as the number of those who invoke blessings on him
and the number of such invocations,
and as many times as the number of those who remember him
and the number of such rememberances,
such blessings whose spiritual light
may abide in my ears, in my eye, on my tongue,
in my heart and indeed in my whole body
so that neither my body nor these its parts disobey Allah.

O Allah! Let me reach to the situation
where my heart does not act contrary to Your Wishes,
does not cause me any anxiety,
and does not temp my limbs to disobedience;
and let me reach a position
in which my heart does not slacken in Your obedience,
is pleasing in Your Presence, acceptable before You;
and let my limbs not separate from good deeds
done sincerely to please You,
that are acceptable in Your Presence,
O The Most Merciful of those who show mercy.

As can be seen, this salaat is in two parts. The first part is the salaat itself
which is there in Lataaif i'l 'Arshiyyah. The second part is dua (invocation).
Although it is not in Lataaif i'l 'Arshiyyah, it is generally recited after this
salaat and is contained in many other kutub (books) such as Azkaar wa'l
Awraad (Regular Voluntary Invocations) compiled by Shaykh Muhyuddin
bin AbdulRahman bin Muhammad of Zanzibar.

This salaat has become so famous that it is recited at the end of every
gathering of ilm (learning), zikr (rememberance of Allah), and mawlid
(birth) celebration of the beloved Prophet Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam by
the muhibbeen (loving disciples). One reason perhaps why this salaat has
taken such a hold is that it is one of the easier salawaat of Imam al-
Habshi to recite and understand! And of course, its spiritual benefits are
all too obvious for everyone to witness. Indeed, Al-Habib al-Qutb Ahmad
bin Abibakar bin Sumeit Naf'an Allahu Bih (1277-1343 A.H) who was the
Chief Kadhi of Zanzibar took this salaat so much to heart that he wrote a
sharh (appreciation) on it in Arabic.
