Expectations Letter AP 2014-15 Seora Warren

Hola! Welcome to AP Spanish. Below you will find an explanation of what you can expect over
the course of this year we are together. We have a lot to do in a relatively short amount of time
but fear not, weve got this. We are going to work hard and get you ready to successfully take
the AP Spanish Exam in May.

Curriculum
We will be using the workbook: AP Spanish: Preparing for the Language and Culture
Examination as well as several other AP study aides. I will also be pulling from film, podcasts,
news sources, commercials, books and magazines to fill in blanks that exist. We are also going to
practice with bits and pieces of the exam starting now.

Classroom Rules
Students will: 1. Obey school rules
2. Dont chew gum
3. Be on time.
4. Bring all materials to class (see below)
5. Avoid violence: swearing, unwanted physical contact, mean
jokes, put-downs, cheating, and rude behavior including
speaking when the teacher speaks
6. Help one another in practice-speaking, group work, and
whenever it is appropriate
7. NO TRANSLATORS EVER - any assignment where a
translator is used will receive a zero. This is cheating and I will
not accept any work done by the computer instead of the
student.
8. NO NAME NO GRADE! If you do not put your name on your
paper you will receive a zero on that assignment.

Students have been rewarded, in advance, for following the above mentioned rules. They start
off with 50 participation points. I take 10 of those points away for each violation.

Students with chronic behavior problems will have a behavior plan with me. Possible
interventions include but are not limited to: mandatory Access, detention, a plan worked out
with parents/guardians, and/or office referrals.

Missed work
Students are responsible for making up all work, including homework, classwork and
participation, missed during absences.

Assignments and will be posted on Schoology. There will be a link to the Schoology page on my
website http://jenniferewarren.weebly.com and there will also be a notebook in the classroom
that will contain the warm-up, notes about the days classwork and assignments. Students who
have been absent should look either place to find out what they missed, ask me for any hand-
outs, or if they have questions. For excused absences, students have 2 days for each day absent
to turn-in missed work on time. After that, it will not be accepted.

District and school policy will be followed for make-up work for unexcused absences or
suspensions. Depending upon the circumstances, students have 2 days for every day absent
with the grade on the completed make-up work automatically lowered one full letter grade.
There is a detailed district policy about this.

Late Work
Please make note: I do not accept late homework for kids present in class/school the day it is
due.

Homework and Projects
Learning a second language involves a great deal of practice. Homework assignments are
specifically designed to support the learning taking place in class. They are not busywork.
They are usually short assignments, and are assigned several times a week.

Students will have a bi-weekly project meant to supplement the over-arching themes (see my
website or your students workbook for a breakdown of each unit) we will be tackling in class.
They will receive a handout with the details of the assignment and those details will be constant
throughout the year.

Grades
Students will receive points for each assignment. I will be scoring their work on a five point
scale, 1 being the worst and 5 being the highest. While assignments will be worth more than five
points, the feedback they receive will be in keeping with the AP rubrics.

The computer will weigh grades for categories of assignments as follows:
Tests/quizzes: 30%
Homework/projects 25%
Participation/classwork 30%
Final Exam 15%

Materials
Each student should have the following:
1) A notebook to journal in
2) At least one package of multi-colored notecards, two packs of blank white notecards and a
pack of key rings.
3) A binder and four dividers.

My school voice mail number is 303-982-5140. I will check my voice mail at least once each day.
My e-mail is: jewarren@jeffco.k12.co.us. I check e-mail often and will respond to every email I
receive as quickly as possible.

I look forward to a great year!
