Please respond to the following prompts: 1. Summarize the key points you learned from this Professional Development experience. Data-based Decision Making is making decisions based on data that one is presented. This standards-based educational reform seeks to improve education through the clear specialization of desired student outcomes, the measure of students performance, and the evaluation of the impact of educational practices on actual student performance. This process is used to improve instruction in the classroom. Data can be gathered through daily observations, general discussions, homework, projects, papers, and etc.
2. Discuss how these key points connect to your content area. Data-based decision making will be used in the SCOPE. We are required to collect data from the lessons that we instruct. We use this data to interpret the students overall understanding of the new concept. The data should compare all range of learners and both genders. When analyzing data, it allows us to change our teaching style or strategy to better meet the students needs.
3. Share how you might use this new information in your future classroom. It is very important to measure student performance. It doesnt matter if you are teaching something, if no one understands it. I will definitely use this strategy in my classroom. I will use data aggregation to look at my class as a whole, are they understanding it? This will let me know if I need to go back and change the way I presented a key skill. I will also use data disaggregation to compare the high ability students to the low ability students, gender, and etc. to see if there is a larger gap than usual. This process will allow me to help individual students to grasp the concept better.
