Db side:
1) backup database (you probably know that
2) backup ORACLE_HOME

APPS side:
1) TAR all files (can be done online!!!) like: tar czf prodappl.tgz /apps/PROD/
prodappl &
tar czf prodcomn.tgz /apps/PROD/prodcomn &
tar czf prodora.tgz /apps/PROD/prodora &If you get
tar: Removing leading `/' from member names
or
tar: Removing leading `/' from hard link targets
or
... Cannot stat: No such file or directory
or
... file changed as we read it
or
Error exit delayed from previous errors
this is OK regarding tar proces on onlne files (these files are unimportant)

After that all you need is restore APPS side as:
tar xzf prodappl.tgz &
tar xzf prodcomn.tgz &
tar xzf prodora.tgz &
in the same /apps folder.
