I look forward to a challenging and exciting year. As an
English 9 course, this class will demand a high quality of
work to prepare you either for college or your future
employment plans. tudents can anticipate working at a
quicker pace with a rigorous coursework in !oth reading
and writing. tudents will work on !ecoming critical
thinkers !y discussing and writing essays a!out the
no"els we read, with a focus on analysis and
argmen!a!i#e assignments. tudents will learn to work
within a group and presenting their ideas in a coherent
comprehensi"e manner. #e will aim to impro"e reading
closely skills, finding e"idence to support a claim,
analy$ing literature and researching texts. tudents
should anticipate independent reading to support the

common core standards mandated !y the state.

curriculum we are pro"iding students. &he state has

proficiency units, students will !e required to complete

will send home a separate letter explaining the
expectations, due dates etc.

In an effort to keep students on track with the completion of the English 7anguage Arts requirements for graduation, the
English /epartment has de"eloped a graduated grading policy to promote student success in middle and high school. As a
department, teachers will pro"ide students with ad"ance notice of upcoming assignment due dates.
