The SavWatt new Eco Pole LED Street light is a 60-180W Solar Panel and 200-300W Micro Wind Turbine unit that provides efficient Green lighting and enables replacement of traditional 250 watt metal halide street light. The Eco Pole 60 W LED street light requires no grid hook-ups, saving 100% of the energy cost required to light up an open space or an area. The unit is self energized. The University is looking into saving energy and money by joining the environmentally friendly LED lighting and Green revolution. Mini Project #1: The project objective is to design a performance monitoring system for the Savwatt unit. The project is to interface the HC 12 microcontroller to the Savwatt unit to capture system current and voltage readings from the combined solar and wind power module for output power calculation and the data logging of the daily output power produced. Sub- modules such as Power measurement unit and/or multimeter may be required. Min Project #2: Interfacing the output power and the calculated cumulative daily power produced (wirelessly if time permits) to a Display unit. Reference: Savwatt company www.savwatt.com 2. Obstacle Avoidance Blind Stick Mini Project I: Design the hardware for an obstacle avoidance blind stick for guiding a visually impaired person. The devise needs to be able to detect an obstacle in the path of the blind person, and caution the blind person not to walk into the obstacle, and/or give directions to the blind. The initial design will use HC 12 microcontroller, but other design platform may be used. You are required to research appropriate Sensor technology for this project. Mini Project II: Design the system that can give direction to the blind when to cross at a traffic light and determine the crossing time and distance. Mini Projects I & II or Senior Project II: Design the system that can lead a blind person to walk from location A to location B across multiple streets. 3. Mini Projects I and II: Redesign the PV Squeegees project to use a soft brush or brushless wash with water tank attached. Use the HC 12 Microcontroller and appropriate sensor technology.
