GEORGIA ALL-STATE CHORUS INFORMATION

Your child has expressed an interest in auditioning for the Georgia All-State
Chorusa high honor in the area of music education in Georgia. Students
audition for panels of teachers by singing scales, sight-reading, singing a
prepared vocal solo, and taking a written test on tonal memory and musical
symbols. I will assist students in preparing for the auditions during class and by
meeting with them outside regular class. Also, Ill make a CD for the student to
rehearse all the requirements at home.
Parents take students to auditions that are held away from our school. The frst
audition will be held on Saturday, November 15, at Woodland High School
in Stockbridge, GA.
The All-State Chorus is a group of approximately 400 middle school students
(also high school students in diferent choruses) who come together during the
weekend of March 5-7, 2015, to Athens, GA. If your student becomes a member
of All-State Chorus, a couple of parents and I will take the students to Athens as
chaperones during the All-State Chorus event. The students rehearse on
Thursday, Friday, and Saturday to present a concert for parents, friends, and
other family members on Saturday afternoon in Athens. Parents are responsible
for fnancing meals and a hotel room for Thursday through Saturday and coming
to Athens on Saturday to hear the concert and to pick up their child.
Again, becoming a member of the All-State Chorus is the highest choral
achievement for a middle school chorus student. Students will have a lifelong
memory if they become a member of the Georgia All-State Chorus.
DATES:
1. Audition Registration Fee: $20.00. (Due Tuesday, September 23. Make check payable to
RCS.)
2. First Audition Date: Saturday, November 15, 2014. Site: Woodland High School/Stockbridge,
GA
3. Second Audition Date: (If you pass the frst audition) Thursday, January 22, 2015.
Site: North Springs High School
4. All-State Chorus Event: March 5-7, 2015, Athens, GA
IF YOU ARE AUDITIONING:
1.Bring a $20.00 check (payable to RCS) to Dr. Messer before Tuesday, 9/23/14.
2.Plan to come to school from 8:00-8:20 AM on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays to prepare
for your audition (between September 23-November 13). These Tuesday/Thursday
rehearsals are NOT mandatory, but should enhance greatly your chances of earning a
position in the Georgia All-State Chorus.
