Course Overview:
In this course, students are introduced to the industry of sports, entertainment, and event marketing.
Students acquire transferable knowledge and skills among related industries for planning sports,
entertainment, and event marketing. Topics included are branding, licensing, and naming rights;
business foundations; concessions and on-site merchandising; economic foundations; human relations;
and safety and security. Mathematics and social studies are reinforced. Work-based learning strategies
appropriate include cooperative education, entrepreneurship, internship, mentorship, school-based
enterprise, service learning, and job shadowing. DECA (an association for Marketing Education
students) competitive events, community service, and leadership activities provide the opportunity to
apply essential standards and workplace readiness skills through authentic experiences.

Progress Reports are issued half way through the grading period. Each student will receive a hard copy of this report.
Progress reports need to be signed and returned the next class day. Any student or parent wishing to see a current grade must
log on to the CMS Parent Portal website at: https://cms.powerschool.com/public.

Tutoring/Extra Help:
Students who were absent, struggling with the course content, or who want more practice may come to tutoring on Monday
from 2:30 3:30 PM. Students must come prepared with their course material and questions. Tutoring is provided for
students who are on task and making a reasonable effort in class, not for catching up because a student is sleep in class, off
task, or disruptive.

Late Work/Re-testing:
Deadlines for assignments will be discussed when they are given. A failing grade could result if work is turned more than
one class period late. Students will earn zero credit for assignment missed or not made up. It is the STUDENTS
RESPONSIBLILTY to check missing assignments and due dates they need to complete. Students who are charged with
academic dishonesty will be given zero credit and parent notification.

Re-testing of objectives on formal assessments is allowed, but not until the student has completed a tutorial and/or review.
Re-testing is not done during instructional time. Re-testing is not designed for students to get a preview of what the test
will look like, as students will only be able to earn up to 84% to replace their initial test grade.

Attendance:
Due to the interactive nature of this course, attending class regularly is essential to learning the material. When a student
returns to school following an absence, the student must assume the responsibility for obtaining their missed work. Missed
work must be completed no later than five school days after the student returns to school.

Materials Needed:
The student will need these materials on a daily basis. 1 inch 3 ring binder with 5divider tabs, loose leaf paper, a USB flash
drive, pencils, and pens. There are several video tutorials that are used in conjunction with the labs. It is recommended that
the student has a flash drive for document storage while working on large files. Teacher will not provide these materials and
asking other students for these materials in class will not be permitted.

Daily Expectations:
Students are expected to
1. Abide by the policies and procedures of the CMS Students Rights & Responsibilities Handbook.
2. Comply with all rules as directed by the teacher.
3. Follow classroom procedures.
4. Respect the rights and property of others.
5. Treat our facilities and equipment with respect.
6. Refrain from using computer applications or Internet access unless directed by the teacher.
7. Exhibit ethical computer behavior at all times.
8. No eating or drinking inside of the classroom.
9. Bring the required materials to every class session.

Students should expect to spend 3 to 5 hours per week or more outside class completing assignments.

computer or in class may result in removal from the computer for a period of time until parental
