Arts Goals
The following is an outline of the arts goals which I have extended on from
my mind map. Each of the integrated experience I have incorporated relate
directly to the outcomes from the creative arts syllabus document. I have
specifically focused on the elements of performing, listening, composing and
creating when considering each experience.
The outcomes which correspond with my experience include: participating in
simple speech, singing, playing and moving activities, demonstrating an
awareness of musical concepts, listening to and responding to music, and
exploring movement in response to a stimulus to express ideas, feelings or
moods (BOS, 2006).
The integrated art experiences in the element of music are supported by
Susan Wright (2003) who discusses the importance of exploring art as it
encourages childrens learning to be open and spontaneous. Experiences
which incorporate a musical element such as this can increase the
development of skills in the various modes of expression, such as dancing
and singing (Wright, 2003).
Kempa (pp131. 2002) highlights how rhythm exploration can assist children
to learn concepts of patterns in a variety of ways, particularly in the patterns
created when performing dance routines and movement sequences.
By providing children with the opportunity to paint whilst participating in the
experience it allows individuals to explore the textures and feelings of the
paint between their toes. The activity will also heighten further conversation
and exploration of colours and patterns and comparisons of shapes and
sizes. Duncam (1995) suggests this kind of art-based experience allows
children to expand their horizons and provides them with choice, flexible
thinking, playfulness, spontaneity, and stretching their imagination
