Afghanistan is a landlocked nation in south-central
Asia. Strategically located at the crossroads of major north-south and east-west trade routes, it has attracted a succession of invaders including Alexander the Great, in the fourth century B.C. Kabul, is the capital and largest city of Afghanistan, located in the Kabul Province. According to the 2008 official estimates, the population of Kabul metropolitan area is 2.8 million people.
CULTURE "Afghan has been used to represent the members of an ethnic group. They are also known as the Pashtuns, Islam is their religion, it Is practiced by most of the Afghanis and this religion shapes their lives. They practice it daily. They are very strict on religion, so during Ramadan they all fast, and they are allowed to work up to six hours a day only. Women are supposed to take care of families, while men are supposed to work (jobs). Conservative women and men prefer socializing separately or within their own family. Women and men are required to dress conservatively . Women arent allowed to socialize with men who they dont know. Family customs and traditions matter the most to them. ADMINISTRATION Mostly the people that control Afghanistan are known as the Taliban. The Taliban rule without a constitution. They rely on the Koran ministers exist in Kabul and lower-level civil servants have remained in place for a long time. There is no real administration. SOCIETY Education isn't well known. Women tend to get married earlier then men. Men are more favoured because they can bring more wealth. Men are more educated, and have to work. Women mostly stay home and help there mothers. Women have to be religious .
ARCHITECTURE Most of the historical cities are: The Balkh, Ghazni, and Herat. After twenty years of war most of the historical sites dont exist anymore. For example the bazaar of Tashqurghan, the Buddha statues of Bamyan have also been destroyed. Mostly the cities and towns are in ruins, and reconstruction isnt taking place.
TRADE AND COMMERCE Afghanistan produces some commercial goods like: hides, wool and dried and fresh fruits, The Taliban have opened commercial routes between Pakistan and Turkmenistan, The country imports tax free goods through Pakistan including cars, radio, air conditioners, refrigerators and television.
ECONOMY Afghanistan's economy is recovering from decades of conflict. The economy has improved significantly since the fall of the Taliban regime in 2001 largely because of the infusion of international assistance, the recovery of the agricultural sector, and service sector growth. Despite the progress of the past few years, Afghanistan is extremely poor, landlocked, and highly dependent on foreign aid. Much of the population continues to suffer from shortages of housing, clean water, electricity, medical care, and jobs.
