Physical Education Term 3 Learning Story

On Tuesday August 26
th
, Mr John Dorge, a former Australian Olympic basketball player
spoke to the Grade Six year level about his illustrious career in basketball as a player, coach
and mentor. In his talk, Mr Dorge touched on the three key themes of grasping
opportunities, setting effective goals and working as a part of a team.

Below are a series of reflective questions.

1. MAKING THE MOST OF AN OPPORTUNITY:

a) Reflect on a time, moment or event in which you took a risk and grabbed an
opportunity.
I took a risk by choosing the new horse that was a little unsettled for the
equestrian competition and I tried my hardest and grabbed an opportunity and
won a ribbon in the end

b) In your soon coming transition from Primary Education to Secondary Education,
is there something / an opportunity you are looking forward to trying?
I am looking forward to trying out for the school netball team in highschool and trying my
hardest to get into the team and play my best.

2. SETTING EFFECTIVE GOALS:

c) Have you ever taken the time to set yourself a goal or a series of goals? If so, did
you achieve it / them?
I set myself the goal to get to jumping in equestrian and I have just achieved that
goal I achieved the goal by trying my hardest.

d) In your soon coming transition from Primary Education to Secondary Education,
is there a goal or a series of goals you wish to set yourself. If so, what measures
will you take to achieve it / them?
My goal is to get good grades in highschool so the goal I would set for myself would be to
study and try my hardest. I would also set a goal to get into one of the sports teams in
highschool so I would train and try my hardest.

3. WORKING AS PART OF A TEAM:

e) Reflect on a time, where you worked as a part of a team. Was the team
successful, and if so, how did you positively contribute to the achieved success?
I worked as a part of a team at the netball championships I played my best and
encouraged my friends throughout the day even though we only won one game
out of six games

f) In your soon coming transition from Primary Education to Secondary Education,
is there an opportunity you are looking forward to trying in which you will have
to work effectively as a part of a team?

I would join the netball team and try my hardest to work cooperative and
effective in a team, and the skills I will learn to use by participating in a team
sport like joining netball will teach me life skills.
