processing (analysis, manipulation, evaluation sort lists, graphing,) distribution, and
storage.
6.) Learn the basics of MS Excel to begin processing information/data input, output,
processing (analysis, manipulation, evaluation sort lists, graphing,) distribution, and
storage.
7.) Identify and define authentic problems and significant questions for investigation when
processing the data from our class surveys which will serve in the creation of the
direction of this class.
8.) Develop in their ability to understand, analyze, evaluate, compare and contrast, and
draw logical and statistical conclusions based upon information/data gathered in our
class survey using Survey Monkey and MS Excel.

Directions:
Part 1:
1.) Go to www.prepatec.weebly.com.
2.) Select your grade level 6, 7, or 8.
3.) Scroll down to Computer Skills Survey #1 and #2.
4.) Complete both surveys.
5.) If time runs out in one sitting, you can put periods (.) in missing survey fields and
officially save your entries by pressing Next.
6.) The next time when you continue your survey you can put periods (.) in answered
survey fields from a previous session, and enter only the entries which you had
previously left with periods (.) in the blanks.

Part 2:
7.) Once the student data collection is completed through Survey Monkey, students form
into groups of 3-4 students with nearby neighbors based upon the seating chart.
8.) The data files will be exported by Mr. King into an Excel (.elxs) spreadsheet and
provided to students on www.prepatec.weebly.com to be downloaded by students
onto their Flash drives so that groups can learn to process and analyze data with MS

Excel. This is project-based learning and trial by doing done in groups where group
members are the first to assist you and Mr. King when and if necessary.
9.) The names of the files are Survey Part 1 Results, Survey Part 2 Results, and Part
2 Summary Graph Result A.
10.) To process, analyze, and evaluate the data, students in teams will learn to use MS
Excel to select class groups, organize, sort lists, and create graphs so that the data can
be read to answer questions, draw conclusions, identify challenges where students
might all lack knowledge, and/or create further questions for investigation based upon
the data.
11.) This is project-based learning. It is also trial by fire, swim by jumping in, and/or
learn by doing done in groups where group members are the first to assist you and
Mr. King when and if necessary.
12.) A series of independent online training videos available through Google search can
assist students in learning the basics of information processing with MS Excel.
13.) Mr. King can and will also provide direct teaching guided demonstrations in learning
the basics of information processing with MS Excel to assist you as necessary.

Part 3:
14.) All of the student results are to be recorded and written up on the Pre-Class
Computer Skills - Survey Monkey & MS Excel Group Information Processing Write-Up
Sheet.
15.) This write-up sheet includes some specific definitely right/wrong answer questions
and also some student reflection no right answer exploration questions.
16.) Plus, there is the Essential Question (Overarching Question) of this entire assignment:
If you were the teacher of this class, based upon the EVIDENCE of the data gathered in
these two surveys, what would the most important things for you to focus on and teach
to the students in this class? Why? Give evidence in the form of statistics to support
your answer.
17.) Also, what information did you find in your data processing that you can share with
us? This can be anything your team discovers in the data as long as it is based upon the
actual data having been correctly read in this survey.
18.) Please note that some questions ask you for data from your group, or your entire class
(for example: 6E, 7A, or 8B) only, or for ALL of Mr. Kings classes depending upon the
question(s) asked.
19.) Please also Sort and graph the data using MS Excel.Save your graphs and sorted Excel
(.xlsx) files onto your flash drives in a folder named InformationProcessingProject
