Integrating Learning Management Systems


(Edmodo) into K-8 Curriculum

Edmodo in K-8
Safe, closed network: students don't have to include personal information in profile
Sharing digital media such as blogs, links, videos, documents, notes, presentations etc..
Students can participate in online discussions.
Teachers can expand their PLN (Personal Learning Network)
Friendly to the environment..saves paper!
Students have a real audience for their work.
The calendar keeps all homework organized for teachers and students.
Teachers can differentiate instruction by creating subgroups of students.
After posting their work, students can receive feedback and suggestions by their teacher and others.
There are text alerts to remind students of big assignments.
Teachers can give students positive reinforcement privately.
Parents can stay connected by viewing their child's work and grades.
Parents and teachers can message one another.

Implementing digital LMS in the classroom
Why do we need Technology integration?
Providing professional development training for teachers.
Incorporating various digital tools into the curriculum.
Distribution of 1:1 iPads to all students and teachers.
Creating professional learning networks.
Utilizing social networks for teacher support.
School wide initiative planned for August 2014-2015 school year.

Create integrated technology curriculum plan aligned with common core state standards
Create unit lessons and assessments based on technology integration and CCSS
Create an evidence based eportfolio on artifacts gathered through curriculum

Professional Development for teachers:
Offer Edmodo/technology professional development for teachers.
What is Edmodo? How to annotate assignments
iPad training to teachers
Various digital tools and app training
Training to set-up edmodo , nearpod and twitter account
Join at least three Professional Learning Networks on twitter
Research and annotate an app for the iPad
Reflect on a PLN
Present a mini presentation on new integration curriculum
Planning time:
1st. & 3rd Thursday of Month for 1 hour after school with mentors
3rd Wednesday of the month for 1 hour after school with Technology committee and Principal

Parent concerns:
Parents are concerned about child online. Some have compared edmodo to facebook.
Show parents this Infographic detailing edmodo
Communicate the benefits of edmodo or LMS
Open house is during 1st week before school
provide information sessions to parents during open school night
Provide parents with the schools acceptable policy
Technology concerns:
All students have received an iPad that is currently used at school.
Students may not take iPads home, as result may not have access to a digital device to complete
assignments.
Teacher acceptance:
To successfully implement this new curriculum, we must alleviate teachers concerns and fear of
change, by providing them with hands on training, support and professional development training.
