Paper

Sharp has tested all four super-calendared brands of paper and found that these products are
compatible with the Sharp MX range of colour MFPs, and all give good results. If a superior
finish is required, Sharp recommends that Mondi Colour Copy paper should be used for
both copying and printing.

If the end user is currently using a competitive brand of paper, this can still be used on the MX
range however, it is important to remember that some grades of copier paper have a greater
surface dust or rub-off which may cause internal contamination and copy quality degradation.

Coin Vend Interface

All MX series machines have a coin vend interface located on the PCU Main PWB. The vending
device activates various signals to indicate paper sizes and operation.

Because of additional functionality, the interface connector has been changed from 12 to 16 pins.

Connector Manufacture: J ST (www.jst.com)
Connector Type PND series
Connector Part Code (Wire Side) PNDP-16V-Z

Before connecting a third party auditor, the device should confirm to the following:-

1. The auditor interface should be optically isolated from the copier.
2. The device should be Power Supply Unit independent.
3. The device power supply unit should be a plug top adapter, not internal.
4. The plug top adapter should have a reinforced insulation barrier.
5. The audit device MUST comply and display the relevant safety approval mark (C-Tick, CE
or equivalent).

To enable coin vend function, test simulation 26 03 should be set as required:-

Repair Hints

GENERAL SPECIFICATION
Fault Advice
What is the recommended type of
OHP?
Folex BG68 or BG72
(same type used on ARC170-262M).
When browsing an external USB
device, no PDF files are listed
when trying to perform a direct print
job.
To support direct PDF printing, the MX-PKX1 Postscript option must
be installed.
For machines without the Postscript kit installed, only J PEG, TIFF,
PCL & PRN file formats are supported and will be viewed.
Unable to browse sub folders
when using Document Filing with
an external USB device.
When browsing an external USB device, files that are located on the
root directory can only be selected for print..
Data Security Kit installation.
Prior to installing the DSK, ensure the PCU firmware is upgraded to
the following version (or higher):-
MX2300-2700N: PCU 01.04.P0,
MX3500-4501N: PCU 01.06.J 0

PAPER FEED & TRANSPORT
PPD2_S1 paper jams from ALL
cassettes (paper stops at the resist
roller), only when the MXFNX1
Inner Finisher is installed.
Inner Finisher Output Tray failed to raise during copy/print modes
and simulation check (Sim 3-02/03).
Check ALL harnesses that are plugged on the MX-FNX1 Control
PWB (especially CN14) for a poor connection or pinched cable.
PPD2_S1 jams, especially when
recovering from Pre Heat Mode
when the saddle finisher is installed
Upgrade both the MFP and Saddle Finisher firmware to the following
versions (or higher):-
MX2300-2700N: 01.14.P0, MX3500-4501N: 02.06.J 0,
MXFNX2: 010400
PPD2_N1 jams
Check & clean the drum phase sensor & operation. If the sensor is
dirty or faulty, the PCU detects that the drum motor is not rotating
which may cause a PPD2_N1 jam indication.
POD3_N jams
[MX3500-4501N only]
Incorrect operation of the right delivery solenoid arm (sticking)
Replace arm with MARMP0348FCZ1
PPD2_PRI paper jams and/or
various "lock-ups".
Corrupt/Failed System memory. Replace System memory
(DIMM2 - 512MB) on the MFP Controller PWB.
FIN_TIME and/or POD1_N jams,
only when the Inner Finisher is
installed
Sticking Finisher entry gate on the MX-FNX1 (PG section 2, item 18).
Increase the tension of the MX-FNX1 return Spring
(PG section 11, item 11).
A Paper J am is indicated within the
Fuser section, although no paper is
present
If all the sensors are working correctly, check that one of the
thermostats on the fuser unit has not gone open circuit reset.
LPFD_S J ams when feeding from
the MX-LCX1 LCC only
Update the MXLCX1 firmware to v01.02.00 (or higher) so that the
deceleration timing of the paper will not overlap.
POD1_S jam, only when the
Saddle Finisher & Paper pass units
are installed.
[MX3500-4501N only]
Increase the opening of the Paper Pass Unit Flapper by adjusting the
flapper solenoid on the Paper Pass Unit

FED_N jams
[MX-FNX1]
Check that the FED sensor actuator and spring have not fallen out
during transportation refit if necessary.
PPD1_PRI paper jams when
printing various PDF or J PEG files
using 4bit Graphics mode only.
Upgrade both ICU & PCU firmware to the latest version
Paper J am when feeding from
Tray 1 or 2 only.
[MX2300/2700N]
Incorrect Paper Size setting configured.
For MX2300/2700N, the correct paper size must be configured within
Tray Settings (System Settings Menu) for Tray 1 & 2 only.
Also, to prevent a paper jam and the machine history recording a
SIZE_ILG jam type, upgrade the engine and peripheral firmware to
the latest versions (a blank page will exit and a check paper size for
tray message will be displayed,.

When printing to a machine without
using the PCL or PS driver (eg from
Dos or Unix) and User
Authentication is enabled, the print
