Chapter: Why do we fall ill.
Activity: Survey
Each student shall be given a survey sheet format that will be used to generate five
similar copies. The students shall do a survey of five families living in their locality
and then assess that information to fill in the survey form. The student shall also
write some preventive and control measures of the diseases that he has mentioned
in the survey form.
After completing the survey form, the student shall submit it to the teacher. The4
teacher shall ask some viva voce questions or ask the student to answer some
multiple choice questions.
Time span: Survey: six hours (can be spread over a period of five
days.)

Remedial Measures -
(a) If quality information is not gathered – a buddy would be assigned.
(b) If assessment is faulty – personal attention and reading material to be
provided.
(c) Poor quality of data and incomplete analysis – suggestions and individual
guidance to be given.
(d) If information gathering is not done, the teacher would encourage and
generate momentum in the student to perform the field surveys to be
aware, realize and understand our social structure and problems existing
in our society.

Remedial Measures -
If the performance in the open-book test is not satisfactory, then a parallel
assignment based on the test shall be given after which the test shall be repeated.

3. In Mohan’s house, one of his relatives visited them during the summer
vacations. He had just recovered from chicken pox. In Mohan’s house,
drinking water is not covered and a separate vessel is not used to take
out water from the main storage bucket. Mohan’s parents belong to the
economically weaker section of the society. Mohan has been suffering
from stomach ache and diarrhoea for the past few days. Which disease
is Mohan suffering from? What are the primary and contributory causes
of this disease?
5. Some acute disease may become chronic if proper care and treatment is
not done. Comment upon this statement.
Topic to be assessed: Transmission, prevention and treatment of
diseases
Task: Teacher should divide the class in groups depending on the class size.
Each group is given the posters related to a problem.
Each group represents a group of doctors sent to remote area for creating
awareness among the masses for the given problem.
Time span: 7 days for the research and 15 min for presentation

• If the distribution of duties is not done properly, the teacher shall site
examples of groups that have been able to do it efficiently during 'Class
Discussion’.
• If a group has not been able to cover all the aspects related to the issue
given to them, the teacher shall give an assignment to the group based
on the topics .
