Procedures
# Time Activity Form of Work 1 5 min Warm-Up: Look at the picture. What ideas does it evoke in your mind? What is the message or humour of the cartoon? Whole group 2 5 min At home you had to read the Background reading at p. 216. Do you have any questions about the content or vocabulary? Whole group 3 5-10 min Vocabulary: Check the knowledge of the vocabulary through giving their explanations or synonyms. After we finish, pronounce the words correctly. Individual work 4 10 min Comprehension: 1. Has gambling been always illegal? 2. Who are escape gamblers? Whole group 5 15-20 min Summarizing the Issue: In three groups, the student work for 10 min on the activity at p. 219 Each team searches for pros and cons of the issue in the text on one of the categories: 1) The individual 2) Native American Tribes 3) The State Government Group work 6 Listening: 1. explain some words 2. 1 st listening 3. 2 nd listening. First, let them fill in what they know, then check with the audio file.
Home assignment: Study the following real-life case. In three groups plan your position. Team 1: In Favour of Indian Gambling. Develop ideas and summarize your point of view Team 2: Against Indian Gambling. Team 3: The Commission. Prepare questions for the participants to conduct an interview. Then make recommendation for a policy on Indian gaming and present it to the whole group.
