Packing Element Subassembly for the D Type
Blowout Preventers
Purpose
To provide information on the new and improved
CAMERON 11-10,000 psi annular packing element
subassembly for the 11-10,000 psi D annular
blowout preventer. A new part number has been
assigned to the packing element subassembly.
Details
The new and improved annular packing element
subassembly consists of the API tested redesigned packer
and donut. Both the packer and donut are molded from
an improved nitrile elastomer compound formulated to
provide longer service life. In addition, the packer utilizes
redesigned interlocking metal inserts which reduce the
potential for elastomer extrusion in service. The photo-
graph below illustrates the external difference between
the original packer and the new design packer.
