Aha! Process. (2011, October 27). Rita Pierson - My Mamma Said [Video file].

from: http://youtu.be/bndCdOeMO3Y
This video explains how the mama law overrides public law. Mom tells you to defend
yourself, so if someone hits you, you should hit them back. This law cannot apply in school or
work because it can cause a child to get in trouble as well as hurt another. I feel this video is best
for early childhood developmental period because children are still trying to figure out what is
right and wrong based on what they have learned.
Cosgrave, G. (n.d.). Social Stories. Retrieved from http://www.educateautism.com/social-
stories.html
A social story is a guide for children with autism that describes social interactions, situations,
behaviors, skills, or concepts. Because children with autism do not understand theory of mind,
this is a good way to help them try to relate to another persons perspective. It gives tactics,
statistics, examples, and guidelines to follow in order to create an effective social story. I feel
early and middle childhood would benefit most from this article.
Education Portal. (n.d.). Bronfenbrenner's Ecological Systems Theory of Development:
Definition & Examples. Retrieved from http://education-

definition-examples.html
This video talks about Bronfenbrenners five systems that effect a childs development. They
are the microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, macrosystem, and chronosystem. The
microsystem contains family, home, school, and/or childcare. Each system has a direct or
indirect impact on the development of a child. I feel this video can relate to all periods of
development. As children age, they encounter new people and new environments which can
mold their development.

Mental and Physical Health Outcomes. [Video file]. Retrieved from

This video talks about the importance secure attachment relationships between a caregiver and
their child. Without these secure attachments, children are more susceptible to diseases,
sickness, and mental illness. Children experience stress, and it is a caregivers responsibility to
relieve that stress and allow the child to securely explore the world around them. I feel this
video is most beneficial for infant and toddler developmental period.

A familys social class can shape relationships between caregivers and children. Working class
parents teach discipline and middle class parents ask questions and try to reason with them.
There more reasoning in middle and upper class families with little talking in working class
families. I feel this video pertains to mostly early and middle developmental periods.

cognitive development, speech and language development, and social-emotional development. It
gives descriptions of daily routines at each stage as well as learning activities and developmental
alerts.
Pew Research Center. (2011, January 13). A Portrait of Stepfamilies. Retrieved from

In the article, they show that no matter what the age, race, education level, or socioeconomic
status, most adults feel a stronger obligation to their biological family member more so than their
step or half family member. Step children and siblings is most prominent among African
Americans over Whites and Hispanics. No matter what race, children born into a lower social
classes, to younger parents, and/or to lower educated families have a higher probability of having
step/half siblings. This article would be most beneficial for children from early childhood
through adolescent development.
