Voice over:

In the past homosexuality was frowned upon within society due to

religion having a strong hold on the public’s opinions and attitudes.
Homosexuality was stigmatised and even the law endorsed these
views. Over time homosexuals have campaigned for equal rights so
they are were able to live without fear of discrimination.

It is said now that society has a far more liberal concept of

homosexuality. Some hold the opinion that there is total equality
where homosexuality is concerned.

This is an insight into how opinions have changed towards

homosexuality over a period of 50 years; whether the experiences
of gays and lesbians are now different due to these laws being
established, and an exploration into the experiences of the older
generations when society held homosexuals in contempt for their
sexuality.

The Sixties was a time for sexual awakening. But it wasn’t until
1967 the Gay people could share that freedom. Forty years ago
loving the wrong person could make you a criminal. Newspapers
used phrases such as ‘gross indecency’ when talking about the topic
of homosexuality. Society has come a long way 1988, section 28
and the prevention of promotion of homosexuality. But has the
stigma been completely abolished?

There is a significant difference in people’s attitudes and

experiences due to drastic law changes. Homosexuals are now able
to express their sexuality freely because of this. But it can be seen
that there are still too many social constraints on what they feel
they are allowed to discuss regardless of there rights.
