Aims Faculty Association

Bylaws
Article I: Name
The name of this organization is the Aims Faculty Association (herein referred to
as AFA).
Article II: Purposes
The purpose of the AFA is to unite faculty in the common goal of educating
students and promoting the profession of teaching at Aims Community College.
Article III: Members
All Aims faculty, full-time, part-time and adjunct, are eligible for membership in
AFA.
Article IV: Officers and Organization
The officers of this organization shall be the president, vice president, secretary,
and the treasurer. The term of office shall be one year. Officers may serve
consecutive terms.
President: The duties of the president shall include carrying out the policies of
the association, exercising general supervision over the activities of the
association, and presiding at meetings of the association and executive
committee. The president shall be a member ex officio of all committees. Only
full time faculty members may serve in the capacity of president.
Vice President: The duties of the vice president shall include those usually
appertaining to the office and those delegated by the president. In the absence
of the president, the vice president shall serve in the presidents stead. Only full
time faculty members may serve in the capacity of vice president.
Secretary: The duties of the secretary shall include keeping a record of all
proceedings and correspondence of the chapter, certifying chapter delegates to
the Associations annual meeting, keeping a roster of members. In the absence
of the president and vice president, the secretary shall preside at meetings of the
association. Only full time faculty members may serve in the capacity of
secretary.
Treasurer: The treasurer shall keep an accurate record of all funds received and
disbursed. In the absence of the president, vice president and secretary the
treasurer shall preside at meetings of the association. Only full time faculty
members may serve in the capacity of treasurer.
Article VI: Committees
A. Executive Committee
The Executive Committee shall consist of the elected officers of the AFA. The
majority of the executive committee shall constitute a quorum for conduct of
business of the committee. The executive committee shall: Meet regularly with
members of Aims College Administration
1. Conduct the business of the association between meetings.
2. Keep all positions on the executive committee filled as vacancies occur
3. Consult regularly with administration on matters of mutual interest
B. Consultation Committee
The Consultation Committee shall be made up of four members. Members shall
serve a two year term. Only full time faculty members may serve in the capacity
of Consultation Member. The Consultation Committee shall meet regularly with
members of Aims Community College administration to discuss issues related to
specific conditions of employment (see Aims Policy 4-705).
Article VII: Academic Division Representatives and Part Time (Adjunct)
Faculty Representatives
One representative from each academic division shall be elected by the
membership. The term of office shall be one year. Representatives may serve
consecutive terms. Only full time faculty members may serve in the capacity of
Academic Division Representative.
Two representatives from the part time (adjunct) faculty pool shall be elected by
the membership. Only part time faculty members may serve in the capacity of
Part Time Faculty Representative.
Article VIII: Elections
Elections for the Executive Committee, Consultation Committee and
Representatives shall be held during the spring semester (except for the initial
AFA elections which will occur in the Fall of 2014). The executive committee,
consultation committee and representatives shall hold office from August of the
year in which they were elected to office to August of the following year.
Elections may be held electronically.
Article IX: Meetings
Meetings will occur regularly during the regular academic year.
Article X: Amendments
These bylaws may be amended by a majority of members votes cast, provided
that a notice setting forth the proposed amendment or amendments and
explanation thereof and known objections thereto shall have been sent to each
member at least thirty days prior to the vote. Notifications and votes may be
electronic.
Article XI: Rules of Order
Roberts Rules of Order Revised shall be the authority for this chapter in matters
of procedure not specified above.
