Ideas for Cultural Museum Project

2. Traditions and Customs- Research the customs and traditions of your chosen
culture. Create a metaphorical poem that compares a custom or tradition to a
seemingly unrelated noun in a creative and interesting way. Your poem should be at
least 30 lines long and give the reader a good understanding of the custom or tradition
you have chosen.

3. Art- Many cultures have a rich tradition of creating culturally relevant art. Choose
an area to focus on and research one of these artistic areas. Consider such genres as
visual arts, graphic art, music, masks, sculpture/ carving, tapestry or woven fabric cloth
production. In your research, you must find directions that explain how artists create
their work. You must use those directions to produce your own version of the
particular art form. Include in your project a brief explanation of the history of the art
form.

4. People- In your research, you are to find out how many different ethnic groups are
indigenous to your chosen culture. Find four images or symbols that represent their

between races? What has been the history of race relations in the country? Compare

break -through, or a push for social, political changes. In this project you are to find one
person who meets the above mentioned criteria. Research that person and then become

video tape yourself performing the piece. You must include a costume and record your
performance in a setting that reflects the county of origin.

9. Photo Essay- Pick a social or political issue that plagues the people of the county
you have chosen. Research and collect enough information to write a three page
informational essay in which you take a position that informs the reader and suggests a
solution to the problem. Find 15-20 images you believe help to tell the story or
communicate the message in your essay. Use one of the following Web 2.0 tools to
develop a visual movie or slide show which combines both the images and the words
from the piece. Click the following links to learn how to use these Web 2.0 tools.

audience you are attempting to reach. Your purpose (to entertain, to inform, to
persuade) should be evident in the design of your cover. Thoughtful and purposeful
consideration should be given to color choices, font choice and size and image
placement.

drink from the time period you have chosen to research. Include the recipe and an image
