EST2: Replacing 2-MCMN Network Main
Controller Modules
Introduction
Recently, we released Version 3.2 of 2-MCMN firmware to meet UL 864 9th edition
requirements. This technical bulletin is to inform you of an issue which results when
you replace a 2-MCMN Network Main Controller Module in an existing system with a
new one.
Issue
New 2-MCMN modules ship with V3.2 firmware, which is not compatible with earlier
network controller firmware versions. As a result, replacing an old 2-MCMN module
with a new one causes system communication problems.
Solution
To prevent system communication problems, make sure each 2-MCMN module and
each 2-CPU module in the network has the same version of firmware. This means
that if you replace an existing 2-MCMN module (one with V3.1 or earlier firmware) you
must also install a 2-MCMN V3.2 Firmware chip (P/N 190244) in the remaining
2-MCMN modules and 2-CPU modules.
Figure 1 on page 2 shows the firmware socket locations on old and new 2-MCMN
modules.

2-MCMN firmware V3.1 and earlier will not work in new 2-MCMN modules. 2-MCMN
firmware V3.2, however, will work in old 2-MCMN modules. See Table 1 below.
