At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
A. General Objective know the authors mood, point of view and purpose.
B. Specific Objectives 1. define the authors mood, point of view and purpose; 2. identify the different authors purpose through a quiz bee; and 3. realize the significance of the authors mood, point of view and purpose to their field of specialization.

3. Authors Purpose
It is the main reason why he/she writes the passage.
ENTERTAIN When authors write to entertain they want us to enjoy the writing. Authors just want us to have fun reading.
INFORM When authors write to inform they are presenting facts about a subject. This type of writing has: 1. No opinionated statements (only facts); 2. No implied suggestions; 3. The reader learns about something.
Examples of types of informative writing: newspapers, encyclopedias, dictionaries and pamphlets.
PERSUADE When authors write to persuade they are trying to get the reader to do something: 1. THINK: believe what they are saying or change your mind; 2. ACT: buy a certain product or join a club; 3. FEEL: know what someone else is feeling;
Examples of types of persuasive writing: letters, speeches, advertisements and editorials.

D. Application (Quiz Bee)
The class will be divided into 7-10 groups. Each group will be given flash cards containing the four authors purpose. The teacher will flash different books and then the students will identify what is the authors purpose. They will raise their answer using the flash cards. Wait until the teachers cue to raise the answer. The team with the highest score will get the perfect score in the activity.
