Background Information



1. Teaching Environment: Kennedy Primary Academy (675 children between ages 5
and 10 years of age).

3. Number of Student per class: Approximately 25

4. Grade and Age of students: 2

Graders (7-8 year olds)

5. Gender: Even distribution of boys and girls

6. Previous Experience: This will be their first experience with cloud types although
they know what they are and some of their functions; this will be their first in-depth
lesson on the subject and the information. Therefore they will easily be able to use
and navigate these resources due to their prior experiences with computer program
and Internet usage since it is a large part of the educational experience at Kennedy.

7. Technology Level of School: High levels of technology (smart boards, internet
access throughout the school, lots of computer labs. Vast knowledge of technology)

8. Teacher: Hannah Pietrzak (age 20) Born and raised in South Bend. Familiar with
Kenney Primary Academy and their teaching style since she attended the school
during her 3
rd
and 4
th
grade years.

9. Standard: 2.2.3 Chart or graph weather observations such as cloud cover, cloud
type and type of precipitation on a daily basis over a period of weeks.

10. Assessment: Following this three-part cloud lesson where the students will be
introduced to the various cloud types and their functions, they will be expected as a
class to graph and describe precipitation types along with cloud types over a period
of time. There will also be a test where the students will be asked to match the
definitions with the correct cloud type.
