Mealworm Proposal


General Question: Do beetles turn darker?

Investigable Question: Does the amount of sunlight have an effect on the color of the beetle?
If there is a change in the beetle's color, we can see which light setting effected the
beetle's the most.

We know that often times different environmental factors can affect the beetles' color and
health. We are seeing if the light has an affect on the beetles' color.

Length of Time: 3 weeks*

*Because we have a presentation at the end of the month, we are limiting our observation time
and seeing if sunlight levels make initial changes to the beetles' color.


Materials Needed:

-Beetle
-Survival needs (food: cornmeal)
-Beetle Cage

Procedure:

1. Each member will bring their beetle home and place their beetle in one of the four
environment
-On porch (Kelly Lamp)
-In windowsill (Katie Diven)
-In regular room light (Ann Molina)
-In a dark closet (Allie Smith)

2. We will record the beetles' color by taking pictures twice a week (Tuesday and Thursday).
This pictures will be posted on our websites under our Science Notebook tab.
