Located between the foothills of the Adirondacks
and the Tousand Islands region of the St.
Lawrence River, the Village of Gouverneur will
construct a variety of green practices to help
reduce stormwater runof and the occurrence of
combined sewer overfows to the Oswagatchie
River, which runs through the center of town and
provides drinking water for its 3,949 residents.
Bioretention systems, rain gardens, constructed
wetlands, rain barrels, porous concrete sidewalks
and a porous asphalt residential street are among
the green infrastructure technologies that will
be incorporated into a larger municipal sewer
separation project designed to improve the quality
of stormwater entering the existing collection
system in the western portion of the Village.
