1. What can you say about the economy of the Philippines?

We have an economy on the rise. The world now has recognized the potential of the
Philippine market and investors start to consider doing business in the country. But
this is a work in progress and people at the grass root level cannot yet feel the effect
of this changes in our economy.

2. What are the specific strategies/policies/programs you know that are being used by
the Philippines?

Leadership in the government has a very important role in the development of our
economy. With the ways of our current administration, programs against graft and
corruption have helped a lot in boosting the confidence of investors in doing
business in the country. Efforts in building public-private partnerships also help in
realization of the government plans.

The government also implemented structural reforms and doubled infrastructure
spending as well as significant increases in health and education spending. These
required tax policy and administrative reforms.

3. What sectors of the government do you know that are contributing to the economy?
In what way they contribute?

Based on statistics, the industrial sector contributes the most in our GDP based on
processing and assembly operations in the manufacturing of electronics and other
high-tech components, usually from foreign multinational corporations.
Though agriculture remains to be the largest sector in the country, still it has the
least contribution to our GDP in the past years. According to World Bank Statistics,
in 2013 agriculture employs 32 5 of the Filipino workforce and accounts for 12 % of
the Philippine GDP in the said. This sector includes activities ranging from small
subsistence farming and fishing to large commercial ventures with significant
export focus.

4. What future plans and programs do you know that the government are planning to
do?

As of today, the current administration has implemented their plans. The question
now is on who would be the best person to continue the reforms started by this
administration or the best person to continue the economic development after the
2016 elections.

Philippines?
