Into the World

- Students explore texts that deal with aspects of growing up or transition into new phases of
life and broader world. People encounter different experiences and respond to them
individually. Personal experiences may result in growth, change or other consequences.
Students respond to and compose a range of texts that illustrate different pathway into new
experiences. They examine the features of texts that shape our knowledge, attitudes and
beliefs about individuals venturing into new experiences.
What does it mean to move into the world?
- Moving suggests transition and change
- Growing up, moving through phases of life, moving into new phases and out of old ones.
- How experiences act as the catalyst for change, growth, reflection and transformation.
- Explore the different paths and ways people enter new phases and worlds.
Who is involved?
- The individual, group or society who is moving into the world.
- Mentors/ role models/ catalysts who are the cause of their (point above) transition or help
with it.
- Barriers to transition. E.g. yourself, other people, events.
What is examined?
- Lifestyles- how people live, their cultures, beliefs, ideologies.
- The causes and effects of transition.
- What impacts these transitions- mentors and/or barriers.

Who is moving into the world?- The main character Rita.
What do they move away from? And towards?- Move away from being uneducated and uncultured.
Moving towards being educated and cultured.
Who or what helps them? Or hinders them? Her teacher is her catalyst for change in the beginning
but then becomes a barrier.
What is the result? How does the individual grow or change? Rita out grows Frank and is becomes
content with the world she has moved into.
