The Brain

Cerebral lobes:
Frontal lobe:
a. Location located at the front of each cerebral hemisphere and positioned
anterior the parietal lobe and superior and anterior to the temporal lobes. It is
separated from the parietal lobe by a space between tissues called the central
sulcus, and from the temporal lobe by a deep fold called the lateral (or Sylvian)
sulcus.
b. Divisions The frontal lobe can be divided into lateral, polar, orbital and
medial part. Each of these parts consists of particular gyri (a ridge on the
cerebral cortex):
i. Lateral part:
1. Precentral gyrus
2. Lateral part of the superior frontal gyrus
3. Middle frontal gyrus
4. Inferior frontal gyrus
ii. Polar part:
1. Transverse frontopolar gyri
2. Frontomarginal gyrus
iii. Orbital part:
1. Lateral orbital gyrus
2. Anterior orbital gyrus
3. Posterior orbital gyrus
4. Medial orbital gyrus
5. Gyrus rectus
iv. Medial part:
1. Medial part of the superior frontal gyrus
2. Cingulate gyrus
c. Functions:
i. It involves the ability to recognize future consequences resulting from
current actions, to choose between good and bad actions, override and
suppress socially unacceptable responses, and determine similarities and
differences between things or events.
ii. It also plays an important part in retaining longer term memories which
are not task-based.
Parietal lobe:
d. Location located above the occipital lobe and behind the frontal lobe.
e. Functions:
i. Integrates sensory information from different modalities, particularly
determining spatial sense and navigation.

Temporal lobe
Cerebral Hemispheres:
Left hemisphere
Right hemisphere
- Which is separated by the median longitudinal fissure.
