I signed the petition called 1% for Kids, which wants to take one percent of taxes from
those who earn a wage over 250,000 dollars. These proceedings goes to hiring back many
teachers who have been laid off due to pay cuts. I feel this needs to be advocated for because
children who are under the age of sixteen is mandated to attend school in order to receive an
education. Therefore, teachers are much needed to assist these students with an education.
Teachers do not only teach students but they are also considered a caretaker, risk their lives when
any child is in danger, and deal with the behavior children inflicts either from their environment,
culture, or upbringings. In my opinion, teachers who are still employed as teachers deserve a
wage more satisfying to their career. The petition was signed and emailed to the attention of
Senator Kay Hagen. Hopefully it will be read and thought about to bring justice and employment
for these career needing citizens.

We the undersigned support a 1% surtax on individuals earning more than $250,000
per year, with the proceeds going exclusively to hire back the thousands of North
Carolina teachers who have been fired due to state budget cuts. Our kids are our
economic future, and a high-quality education system is essential to ensuring that our
state will continue to be a good place to live and do business.
There are currently 6,280 signatures. NEW goal - We need 7,500 signatures!
