Grade 2 (2R & 2G) Homework (Week 10):

Distributed: Friday, October 17th Due: Friday, October 24th


1. Literacy: Read your leveled reading book aloud to your parents for 15-20 minutes per
night. Remember to fill out your reading log. Turn in your reading log on Friday with at least 5
entries.
2. Literacy: Each time you read this week, practice a different style of reading with your parents.
Monday Choral Reading (reading the book aloud together at the same time)
Tuesday- Partner Reading (taking turns reading aloud, while the other person follows along)
Wednesday Independent Silent Reading (reading quietly alone)
Thursday Lead Reading (the higher reader reads aloud and puts their finger on the text, while
the lower reading whispers the text along as best they can)
Weekend Read Aloud (read a book aloud to your parents while they listen and ask you book
talk questions)
3. Mad Math Minutes: Ask your mom or dad to copy the addition worksheets which your teacher
gave you before in class. Practice a different Mad Minutesheet about 3-4 nights per week. Be
prepared for a 1 minute quiz towards the end of every week for the next couple months.
4. PYP: Attached to your homework is your Materials List for your Houses and Homes final
project. In the final assessment of the unit, you and your partner will need to design, plan and
build a model home which fits a particular climate. We would like you to bring in all of your
materials by Friday, October 24th. We will be making your final model home project in class
starting on Friday, October 24
th
or Monday, October 27th.


Optional Bonus Homework: (for stickers and/or prizes)
PYP: Create poster or visual display about a certain type of house that you are interested in. Include an
introduction, what climate(s) the house is in, what materials the house has, any information about what
this house represents about a particular culture, fun facts about the house, and any other information
that you would like to inclulde.
Math/PYP: In Math class, we are currenly learning about both measurement and shapes. Next, our PYP
unit is related to Houses, Homes & Climates. For these topics of study, we would like you to make a 2D
map of your bedroom in your Homework Notebook or on larger sized paper. Use a ruler and sketch this
neatly. Include the major furniture items on your map too. Measure the distance around your room
(perimeter) in centimeters or standard units.
Extra Bonus: Make a list of 10 or more different materials in your bedroom. Color your bedroom map.
