10/2/14Transformational Teaching and Learning Implementation Team Meeting

Idea of transformational teaching and learning: what does it look like, how do we gage it? How to develop granular
benchmarks for a moving target?
Transformational-help to create structures that ensure that organization will continue to evolve for the
betterment of all. In process, improve morale, make people feel like they belong. Akin to transformational
leadership. Maybe instead of programs, think of structure of how school would run that would ensure teachers are
able to work toward bigger goals. What keeps us in the rut? What kind of structure in institution would create
collaborative, improve process? What structure would make teachers secure enough to evolve?
How much of our work is stuff we could do inside the classroom? Or institutionally, programmatic changes?
Structural and best practices and teaching?
Ideas:
observing teachers (TESSA)
Advisory
RAM (at Reavis, end of the day, open plan period, students required to be there, students designated tiers 2
or 3 would have more specific interventions, could change depending on the day)
common planning periods (intradivisional, interdivisional when deemed appropriate)
block or flexible scheduling, creative use of time to address student needs, more flexibility with scheduling,
more interdivisional opportunities,
share the wealth day
EdCamp (Jessica and Jamie can explain-very flexible, no money, and fun!),
teachers teaching teachers (common planning periods, late start days, or division meetings-Matt did at old
school)
PD for kids
advisory could allow uniformity thats hard to have, and sometimes needed (how to do school, especially
in a digital environment)
Freshman mentor program (maybe more of an SEL/Avi experience for freshmen), homeroom/A period,
needs assessment (could help guide decisions we make, apply to action steps), double duty with things that
are requirements anyway (health, consumer ed, can those courses do any double duty?)

Immediate-ish implementation:
o Ed camp
o drafted survey
o watch each other teach one day during preps (put green sign on windows)
o use Newscene (TTL)

Follow up questions for Isoye: how often does oversight committee meet? Does the Board need to be involved in
smaller ideas that dont involve capital expenditure? By 2019, what do we want to have happened? Do we have a
SIP? Why dont we ever talk about it? Rising Stardo we have access to it? Whats the difference between a SIP
and the Strategic Plan Intervention Teams? Is there any guarantee or insurance that what we recommend will go
forward? Streamlining of surveys, so people arent survey-ed out?
