Rationale: Each student learns in a different
way and at a potentially different rate. It is
important to be able to reach each student and
engage them in learning. In my past
practicums, I found that by understanding
individual students, I was able to interact with
them in a way that helped them learn, as well
as understand. Sometimes, developing that
understanding involved paying particular
attention to certain students. It is important to
provide great classroom management in order
to be able to do this. This is something that I
have previously worked on and feel I need to
continue to work on. In order to justify a
desire for inclusive education, teachers need
the ability to reach out to every level and type
of learner.
Strategies:
- Research ideas
beforehand
- Include information in
lesson/unit plan(s)
- Talk to other teachers
Indicators:
- Asking Teacher
Mentor/University
Consultant
- Check if inclusion in
lesson/unit plan(s)
- Feedback forms (from
students)
Goal: To provide an environment that allows
individual students to learn in a way that suits
them by providing a wider variation of
effective teaching strategies including small
group work, games, songs, hands-on activities,
role-plays.
Strategies:
- Research effective assessment
strategies
- Include questions in
lesson/unit plan(s)
- Create chart to record
information
Indicators:
- Records are kept and
maintained
- Check if inclusion in
lesson/unit plan(s)
- Teaching has been adapted
based on assessments

Rationale: It is my understanding and belief that assessment is key to learning.
Effective assessment is important to students, teachers and parents. By
incorporating effective assessment into the classroom, I will be able to guide
my teaching as well as the students learning. In addition, by maintaining
accurate records, I will always have evidence of student learning that can be
used for numerous different reasons. I have also used this goal in the past and
want to enhance my abilities more here. I feel like I need to be better at using
assessment FOR learning and assessment AS learning. I am intending to put a
lot of focus onto this aspect of my teaching because I believe that assessment
is vital to student success. I believe that, if used correctly, assessment can help
students in a variety of ways that relate to real-life, not just the grade in the
gradebook.
Goal: To build and develop effective assessment
strategies including building a variety of
effective strategies, modifying/adapting my
teaching based on assessments, and maintaining
accurate assessment records.
