We are looking for Direct Support Professionals

Asthma; A respiratory condition marked by spasms in the bronchi of the lungs, causing
difficulty in breathing. It is chronic, meaning long term, and inflames and narrows the
airways. DSP serve to help administer the recommended medication to the client.
They help to manage the consistency of the use of the medication. Professionals that
can be sought include; physicians, allergists and or clinicians.

Diabetes; A metabolic disease in which the bodys inability to produce any or enough
insulin causes elevated levels of glucose in the blood. The help that can be sought for
patients with diabetes are generally called Certified Diabetes Educators. There is also

a standard care team that can help support patients with diabetes. This care team
includes a primary doctor (general checkups, head of the care team), endocrinologist
(special training specific to patients with diabetes, should also be seen regularly),
Dietician (food is a very important factor in managing diabetes),and a Nurse Educator;
the nurse educator is key in helping you understand the changes undergone after being

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome; A medical condition of unknown cause with fever, aching
and prolonged tiredness and depression, typically occurring after viral infection. It is not
improved by bed rest and can worsen with physical or mental activity. This disability
has no cure or prescription drug. Primary care providers are one of many doctors that
may be sought when faced with CFS. Psychological support and cognitive behavioral

therapy are sources of help that treat symptoms by contributing emotional support.

Parkinsons; A chronic and progressive movement disorder (symptoms can continue and
worsen over time) The help that can be sought for victims of Parkinsons may include a
movement disorder specialist (neurologist with additional training dealing with
movement disabilities) Other members of the healthcare team can include a counselor

or psychiatrist (for any emotional or mental health issues that can arise) and a physical
therapist.

Multiple Sclerosis: Definition: An immune mediated process in which an abnormal
response of the bodys immune system is directed against the central nervous system
(CNS) = brain, spinal cord and optic nerves. The antigen, what the immune cells are
sensitized to attack is unknown. Symptoms: Fatigue, walking difficulties spasticity,
weakness, numbness or tingling, dizziness or vertigo, bladder problems, pain, sexual
problems, bowel problems, cognitive changes, depression.

Dystrophy: Musculardystrophyisagroupofgeneticdiseasesinwhichmusclefibers
areunusuallysusceptibletodamage.Thesedamagedmusclesbecomeprogressively
weaker.Mostpeoplewhohavemusculardystrophywilleventuallyneedtousea
wheelchair.

Cerebralpalsy:Thetermcerebralpalsyreferstoanyoneofanumberofneurologicaldisordersthat
appearininfancyorearlychildhoodandpermanentlyaffectbodymovementandmusclecoordination

viralencephalitis,orheadinjuryfromamotorvehicleaccident,afall,orchildabuse.

Arthritis:Arthritisisactuallyacomplexfamilyofmusculoskeletaldisordersconsistingof
morethan100differentdiseasesorconditionsthatcanaffectpeopleofallages,races
andgenders.Arthritisisnotjustadiseaseofoldage.Twothirdsofpeoplewitharthritis
areundertheageof65,including300,000children.

Althoughcysticfibrosisrequiresdailycare,mostpeoplewiththeconditionareable
toattendschoolandwork,andhaveabetterqualityoflifethaninpreviousdecades.
Recentimprovementsinscreeningandtreatmentsmeanmostpeoplewithcystic
fibrosisnowliveintotheir20sand30s,andsomearelivingintotheir40sand50s.
