Week 2 Overview

Teacher: Chris Ngo

Evaluator: Richard Bergstrom
Date of Lesson: 9/29/2014
Grade: 4
th

Number of students: 22
Unit: 2 (Movement Concepts)
Previously learnt skills: high-medium-low levels
Facilities: Outside blacktop
Equipment: Hula-hoop for each student, cones (variety to mark boundaries), and whistle

1. Systematic Observation 1
a) SOFIT
b) The first 10 min. of the SOFIT, I observed Lorenzo. He had a MVPA of 210 seconds.
Second 10 min. (Sebastian) was 30 seconds of MVPA. The last 10 min. was 110 seconds and
I observed Ariana. TOTAL: 350 seconds (5 min. 50 seconds). There was a little improvement
since last Wednesday when the activity time was 280 seconds. Management seems to be the
biggest issue to control and the weather has an affect as well.
c) Theres a lot of management because the kids are off task so Chris could take more
authority and set the consequences of off task behavior prior to the lesson. Also, talk about
safety issues so Chris doesnt have to stop the activity to talk about it.

2. Systematic Observation 2
a) Demonstrations
b) For the most part, Chris does demonstrate and his cues were fine. He does use equipment
when the content requires him to.
c) He should address safety issues because a few kids push when they tag each other and
other times theres unnecessary touching/roughness. Also he should demonstrate at the
correct speed and with more passion/effort so the kids are likely to do the same as well. He
also should use a student for the demonstration so peer teaching can happen.

3. Systematic Observation 3
a) Idiosyncrasies
b) "Ok" - 2 (both were used during instruction) and "Alright" - 1 (during instruction).
c) No strategies to fix here since Chris does a great job not saying these idiosyncrasies too
often.

1. Systematic Observation 1
a) SOFIT
b) The first 10 min. of the SOFIT, I observed Joseph (140 seconds of MVPA), Miguel (0
seconds of MVPA), and Christian (10 seconds of MVPA). The total MVPA was 150 seconds.
Chris had a lot of management because the kids were off task and bugging other students so
the lesson had to be stopped many times and therefore activity time decreased.
c) Theres a lot of management because the kids are off task so Chris could take more
authority and set the consequences of off task behavior prior to the lesson. Chris should
have more strict rules so the students understand that certain behaviors arent welcomed in
Tiger Pride. Also, talk about safety issues so Chris doesnt have to stop the activity to talk
about it.

2. Systematic Observation 2
a) Demonstrations
b) For the most part, Chris does demonstrate and his cues were fine. He does use equipment
when the content requires him to. Sometimes he performs the demonstration at the correct
speed. He should be more consistent with that.
c) He should demonstrate at the correct speed and with more passion/effort so the kids are
likely to do the same as well. Also use a student for the demonstration so peer teaching can
happen.
