o Painting & Sculpture

Painting
When I hear the word Painting, I think of brushes and water
color and oil and the Mona Lisa or the starry Night painting
by van Gogh. But in truth I typically seem to overlook the
significance of paintings. I love to paint, a talent Ive only
recently picked up in high school. Take the brush dip it in
paint and apply it to the canvas. It would seem that is all to
painting. But to an artist its so much more; to an artists
every last brush stroke is of great magnitude and every
stroke is thought out and planned. To the end result of the
painting which can affect a person so deeply.
Last weekend we visited Saint Louis Missouri and the growing art
community they have there. We walked into a gallery filled with such
beautiful paintings and carvings. One Piece was quite large, about 8 feet
tall and six feet wide. At first glance it looked to me as if someone just
painted a bunch of random things on a canvas. The artist walks up and
begins to describe the piece and the work that he had put into it. He
explained haw every part of the painting had a significant meaning to
him and his past experiences. He then goes on to tell us that being able
to paint or draw is great in all, but without meaning behind your work,
there is no purpose in it.
That is something I encountered that really inspired me and gave me a greater outlook of things.
