ThisisthefirstvisittoMogadishubythenewSRCCsincehisappointmenton
July9thisyear.

Wewelcometoday,theAmbassador,therepresentativeoftheAfricanUnionto
SomaliawhoisthesuccessorofAmbassadorAnnadif.Hearrivedyesterday
andhasmetwiththePresidentofSomalia.Theydiscussedthecurrentsituation
inSomalia,especiallythesecuritysituationandalsotheprogressmadebythe
Somalinationalarmy(SNA)andhowtheycanfurtherbesupported.Youknow
thattheAfricanUnionishelpingtheSomalipeople,becausetheforceswithus
here,andthosethatarefightinginthedifferentregionsofSomalia,arefrom
differentAfricancountries,saidDr.AbdirahmanBeyle,SomaliasForeign
Minister.

Asrequiredbyprotocol,thenewHeadofAMISOMmetPresidentHassanto
reiteratetheAfricanUnionscommitmenttoworkingwithSomaliainorderto
returntheHornofAfricancountrytonormalcy.

TheAfricanUnionMissioninSomalia(AMISOM)isanactive,regional
peacekeepingmissionoperatedbytheAfricanUnionwiththeapprovalofthe
UnitedNations.ItwascreatedbytheAfricanUnionsPeaceandSecurity
CouncilonJanuary19th,2007withaninitialsixmonthmandate.

IfeelhumbledandreallyhonouredbecauseSomaliaisdeartoourheartsas
Africans,becausepeaceandstabilityinSomaliaispeaceandstabilityinthe
wholeofAfrica.OnbehalfoftheChairoftheAfricanUnionCommission,Ihave
reiteratedtothepresidentourfirmcommitmenttostandbythepeopleof
SomaliauntilsuchtimewherethepeopleofSomaliaenjoytheirAllahsgiven
righttofreedomandprosperity,saidAmbassadorMamanSidikou,thenew
SRCC.

Priortohisappointment,AmbassadorSidikouwhohailsfromNigerwashis
countrysambassadortotheUSAandhasheldseveralotherhighlevel
governmentpositions.HereplacesformerSRCCAmbassadorMohamedSaleh
AnnadifwhoservedfromNovember2012toJune2014.
