Middle School Conferences November 3, 6
Art Show!!
The conference art show will feature artwork of the entire 6
th
grade class. A special
Impressionist exhibit will be displayed down the south wing towards the art room.
Students will be able to teach visitors about this style of art and its uniue
characteristics. Students will also help visitors learn how to discuss and critiue
artwork by recogni!ing certain elements in the piece and forming an opinion"
without #ust saying the artwork is $pretty% or $I don&t like it%. All will be impressed
by the exceptional work and creativity of these 'ne artists(

Next we will be getting started with a unit about a wide variety of land forms and
bodies of water. 0e will be learning de'nitions2 drawing pictures2 and locating real
examples in our atlases.

This week in math we continued 3nit *"4perations with
0hole Numbers and 5ecimals. 0e continued reviewing whole
number and decimal place value2 and adding and subtracting
decimals. 0e began work with multiplying by positive and
negative .owers of -6 and some groups spent time multiplying
decimals.
Next week we will continue reviewing multiplying by
powers of -6 and multiplying decimals and then move into whole number and
decimal division.

Students all have an In'nite Bampus Account and email account. They have been
instructed on how to log in to each of them. Burrently we are working on a 'nancial
literacy unit where students have access to the ever' website.

0e recently completed a responsible choices unit. Next week we will begin our
session on income and careers.
Students will be assigned ,oogle accounts by the 'rst part of November.

Science students are continuing to work on measurement skills. So far2 we have
focused on using graduated cylinders and triple beam balances to calculate volume
and mass respectively. If your child would like to practice more with reading a triple
beam balance2 and has access to the internet2 they may want to check out the

Students were assessed over graduated cylinders early this week. /ost students did
very well( The results are in a table below and are divided by pro'ciency bands.
.lease ask your student how they did and check for their score on In'nite Bampus.
Any student may opt to retake the assessment2 but those that scored in the
develo7in: or be:innin: 7ro;cienc& bands are re'uired to reta!e the
graduated cylinder assessment. Students scoring *> and below were given a
Conce7t <ecover& %re7aration %lan worksheet to complete2 sign2 have a
parentCguardian sign2 and return to /rs. Simpson in order to retake the assessment.
